I would happily shoot someone trying to rob me in my own home.

I also think that Tony Martin was justified when he shot the burglars at his place. My only disappointment with that case was that he didn't finish off the other low life who later tried to sue hime for the suffering he experienced when shot. Oh bless his cotton little socks.

My opinion is that criminals should be automatically ineligable to bring civil cases against people for damages that they sustained during the commission of an offence: if they weren't up to no good, they wouldn't have got hurt!

Simple common sense that puts the victims of crime ahead of the perpetrators!

The tony Martin case was a bit more complicated as the thief in question was beating a hasty retreat after seeing the shotgun! Mr Martin shot him in the back. It was argued, and you can see why, that Mr Martin had therefore gone beyond what was necessary to defend himself and his property (as the thief was already running away). That's why he was prosecuted orignally.

Be that as it may, the thief should still have been ineligible to sue him subsequently. See above reasoning.

I think just letting off a few rounds in the general direction of the robbers/attackers would make them $hit themselves and hard target themselves outta there! They're not exactly gonna come back with the police and say you shot at them while they were trying to rob you!

CCTV would be a good investment buddy, good to hear everyone's ok though

In the case of Tony Martin, the main reason for him going down was that the threat has gone (ie he was running away) I think it would've been slightly different if the thief was still in his property as the threat was present!!

I would just chuck the keys too. Even enter the PIN for them. It's just a piece of metal that is insured anyway, no need for heroics.

We r all ok.
A couple of colleagues and friends have said they would have took a bat to them, which is fair enough - whether or not they would have gone for it if it had happened to them. All i know is, this is nothing like something that could happen in the street in a one on one situation. It's completely different.

As for having another scooby, i want one, is it worth it? If i get mine back, or have another, i'll have the new reinforced front door fitted and a wrought iron gate at the bottom of the stairs.

As for the insurance company, they were completely sympathetic with the situation and they are giving it the standard couple of days for recovery.

scary stuff, and i live just 15 mile or so from you. My car is garaged and has excessive security features, not sure if that would be a good thing in that situation as they wouldn't start the car without me. I'm 100% sure my dog would full on attack anyone who came though the door if they wasn't accompanied by me, theres not a doubt in my mind she wouldn't take a few throats out before they new wtf was going on. And although i wouldn't want the dog to get hurt id never stop her. she one of these over protective types

if i were you id up the security weather or not you replace the scooby, for added piece of mind.

this happened 2 doors down from where my house is but they broke in and kicked the living daylights out of him and his pregnant wife before asking him for his keys they then took the keys and his wallet and went but left his car car which was a new golf gti so this has got me thinking about what to do because even if u get a better door they will just put ur window in and get into ur house that way so what can u do? has anyone used the alarm key pad in the car to use the super lock function? would this just sentence you to a severe beating when they cannot get ur car to go?

Black Jax is a great all round option, but obviously cant help towards the initial break in etc.

CCTV is the way forward, but if its noticable, again it encourages them into your house to find the recording device etc.

Its a lose/lose situation really. All you can do is protect yourself against the average kinda theft. Exceptional cases will always happen and go over the top of all measures you have taken.

Its quite a problem in the midlands.

I blame the police in part due to their pursuit policies (or lack of), which results in our cars being targeted by criminals for bank robberies etc.

I can sympathise with you....I was held up at gunpoint by a gang in coventry a couple of years back.

Head up. At least nobody was hurt. I would seriously consider getting a car that doesn't attract these types.

Totally sympathise with what happened to you - I know what it feels like from when they broke into my house by drilling out the kitchen window etc.,.. (previously had an attempted car jacking too)

They didn't get the car that time..... But it was stolen in July last year (not from home).

I did get another Scooby, partly I felt that if what happend stopped me having the car I wanted then the Scumbags have really won!

Main thing is no one was hurt and it really does highlight how badly we need to do something about this sort of thing in this country.

Toe rags broke into the house for keys to 53 plate Sti almost 2 weeks ago- hacked off with Trackstar- as they've not been able to pinpoint a signal! Car was stolen while we were asleep.. so a few hours for them to get away to wherever the low life came from- Castle Vale we suspect given the stolen Ford Escort found abandoned in the next street!

Bad news mate
The fault lays with the law simple.
Make the punishment severe and they will leave alone,untill then the rewards are rich and the risk worthwhile.
No amount of security ,cctv,doors,gates,dogs or guns will work.The rewards are worth the risk.
Sickens me further as I have to pay top dollar for cars to break for parts from legit means and yet the criminal types make a fortune more and risk less than the working man.
They moan the jails are full..let the scally ******* build a jail then throw em in it when its built.
It is because security on cars is now better that they will come after the keys oh yeah and know through no fault of ya own ya insurance has just gone up...again.
Rant over..work to do bills to pay..

Nope the fact that the car was left on the drive and not garaged as it should be- for one night- we'd had a drink at dinner and thought it unwise to move it for fear of rearranging our integral garage and hubbies Capri- also garaged there! Getting onto Ombudsman & Insurance company with letters of complaints and trying to track down a solicitor in Northants that specialise in motor vehicle claims. Trackstar aslo have a lot to answer for.
Can't afford to replace it - new baby- tough call as I loved my car.. but reading what others have suffered- we're counting our blessings.. but cursing the insurance!

My STi was silver with gold alloys- 4214 ED. Have you got your car back yet? Hope you've found the police/insurance and tracker folks more helpful than I've done. Still no word from anyone about mine- I've done most of the chasing- good job I've got plenty of time on my hands!
Have to say- reading your experience made us realise how lightly we'd got off, but it makes me sick just thinking what you've all been through. Don't know about you, but I'm still waking up and leaping out of bed when I hear a car during the night. Take care and hope it all comes ok for you.
