I have been a total petrolhead since I was very young and have driven (owned ) most of the sub supercar performance cars such as several 911's inc TT, Skyline R34, RS6, current RS4 and Ferrari 360.
I only once went on the back of a high performance bike driven by a well known rally driver. Realised then (25years ago) thet there was no way I would own one due to total lack of protection from any "little old lady" who might not see me or even a small animal getting in the way.
Have loved watching bike racing and marvelled at their courage and skill.
Yet it is interesting that today's British GP Pole sitter and eventual race runner up, Colin Edwards does NOT drive a motorbike on the road for the same reasons as I mention. (I am very friendly with his dad and have been at Donnington in the past as a paddock guest).
Big bikes on the road are unsafe no matter who is driving!

Just to add to that one from Dave Middleton, I knew a great number of racing drivers a few years back. It was interesting that most of them felt like me in that after all the fun on the track, driving fast on the public roads was not worth it because in the first place it could not compete with driving on a track and secondly because we all felt it was too dangerous and unfair to others.
I have however owned a good number of big bikes over the years and still ride a bke, but I don't push my luck and drive defensively for my own protection.
