Had a VF28 fitted to my old MY04 WRX, I believe that the turbo come from a Impreza P1 or V5 Type R???????
Was a good turbo had the same sort of mods as your WRX but I had equal length headers and it made 312bhp 298lb/ft on Powerstation rollers!!!!! Only difference was that the car was slightly more laggier but not much that you would notice coming from a standard TD04.
Interesting.
There's always a trade off between power and lag. Them's the breaks when it comes to turbos (unless you have twinscroll Newage JDM STi ).
That makes very interesting reading, I have had a VF28 fitted which, when the car is running properly produced full boost by 2700rpm in fifth and 320lbft of Torque.
Glad your happy with how the car drives and top write up
Damo
What was the peak boost and what gear as this 'seems' very responsive for a VF28..?
300whp is very impressive for TD04. I pressume that is TD04H turbine.
Can you share what compressor wheel is that?
It's an Andy Forrest Hybrid TD04. He explained that he sends std TD04s to a factory to have them machined to his specifications. The turbo is as much about driveability as it is about outright power. Makes for a nice road car.
Here's the blurb from Andy's site :
"AFP4H – is based on a TD04 this is available new or fully re-manufactured on an exchange basis. It is fitted with a new high efficiency, high flow rate compressor wheel and compressor housing which is capable of maintaining the fast spool up rate typically associated with the TD04 but with the ability to run higher boost efficiently over a wider rpm band. This turbo has been tested to levels in excess of 320lbft and 320bhp. With full boost still coming in as low as 2500rpm on a 2.0."
Strange you say that, I was at the clinic yesterday and 258 WHP was around 340bhp @ Flywheel... different dynos different results eh?
Yes, that's what I thought. The measured figure is the 258bhp at the wheels, (you can see the graph forming as the r/r run is carried out by the operator - I was standing next to the pc as it was done). The bhp at the fly is presumably extrapolated from that.
Anyway Kosta, I'm quite happy to accept that my car is really producing 340bhp.
Not sure what transmission losses are on an Impreza ?

and with a bigger turbo he could easily have done that. Instead, he chose to go for power and torque from just over 2krpm. If he wanted 350bhp he could literally strap on a td05-18g and get it remapped. But he didn't want that

Took the words out of my mouth mate !
Yes, the object was low down instant response as opposed to as much power as possible at any cost to driveability.
The new turbo impreza could be like a 4wd ibiza cupra but it looks like pish and the interior doesnt look like its up to much. Plus I like VAG components so the impreza hatch wont do. Oh and I wouldnt want the image that he car carries either.

Actually I quite like the image of the Impreza still, provided it's not too "chavved up" - like others on this site i simply see it as "sporty". As for VAG, of course I'd love an RS4, but for me the VW and Seat products are too "ordinary" in terms of image.

Not a fan of VW's but I would like a SEAT if I was looking for a polo/golf sized car due to them being sportier, cheaper and rather exclusive a bit like a subaru. Not too many of them on the road and many people havent got a clue what they are, so as my brother friend says, when you unexpectedly blast past them their facial expression is classic

Well chosen phraseology.
One classic VW I like is the original Golf Gti of the 70s. Was in one one - nice and light'n'nimble and the first true hot hatch.
Of course the reality is that other (low cost) manufacturers have caught up in terms of performance, but the 4wd remains an advantage over quite a few rivals.

For subarus sake then lets hope SEAT doesnt come out with a 4wd leon.
