Which would be fair enough if it was just Sheffield that flooded but as far as I can tell.. it includes..
Sheffield
Rotherham
Doncaster
Barnsley
Chesterfield
Hull
Lincoln
Louth
Horncastle
Leeds
to name but a few and taking in huge areas of land in between these places. I think the following the following counties have all had pretty widescale problems (some to a lesser degree than others).. South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire. Which is quite a huge area affected in relation to the country as a whole.. basically 100's of square miles underwater.

at last, someone who realises Yorkshire isn't a county!

The Great Storm reminds me of a Vicar of Dibley sketch - can't find the script unfortunately: "no no no, that wasn't the Great Storm, that was Great Wind..."

Although from my local knowledge, Shropshire and Worcester have a floods on an annual basis. So any heavy rainfall basically guarantees it floods round there - its a given assurance.

Silted up rivers which authorities won't dredge and feejits building towns on floodplanes (although they did that well over 100 years ago). Being the main problem in that region.

I find amazing that this country, as wet and rainy as it is has no form of "real" storm drain system. By that I mean deep cuts of man made rivers or reinforced streams in excess of 20ft deep from surrounding grounds. Many example can be seen in the EU and US (anyone seen Terminator 2? ), most of which spend 90% of the year bone dry.

I blame Brown (thought I'd get that in before UB ).

the same difference between football players and rugby players or football players and any other sportsperson
