Phoned my order through to Michael this morning, 5/4 inverted

Intend to run with 22mm rear bar on minimum setting and 19mm standard front bar initially. Also have ALK and droplinks.

At Cadwell I discussed front topmount setup with Kev. With my old D2's I had them so that you could dial-in greater caster and camber at the same time ie. the slots were aligned as if pointed at the gearstick, thereabouts. Kev reckoned this was achieved by swapping the struts left to right and could be done with the Apex's too. Thoughts, anyone?

Hi Bren,

Any advice on swapping the struts over to get combined caster/camber adjustment as above? And ... will you be willing to share setup advice, since I'll be running the same struts as you on much the same car? Hope to see you at a trackday next year sometime

cheers
Andy

We have 20 mixed sets of these coilovers on order to fit the GC8 and later cars, both with 5x100 and 5x114.3PCD. We have standard and inverted kits coming.

If anyone else wants in on the buy then please give us a shout asap 01274 683633.

Ansy,

I havent tried swapping the top mounts round to allow castor adjustment, we used spacers on the lower arm to set castor. I dont see any reason why it cant be done though, its just a case of removing the one top nut and swapping mounts. You dont need spring compressor etc to do the job.

Im more than happy to share info, thats why we bought the car, so we can give advice and offer better service to our customers based on our own findings of running the vehicle

I will be at a number of trackdays so will no doubt meet up with you at somepoint

Bren,

Are they set at the recommended preload? As delivered, the preloaded spring lengths on my inverted set are 19.75cm front and 21.75cm rear, exactly the same left to right.

I would never take it as read that the preload is preset, its worth backing the bottom mount off and checking. They need minimal preload, just a few mm to stop the spring rattling.

Please let me know what you think of them guys

Delivered this morning.

Look too good to fit on the car!!

Bren/anyone,going to look into swapping the top mounts across for the castor/camber adjustment? Would be nice to know if its possible before I fit them.

Thanks

Theres no reason why it shouldnt work. The top mounts will swap accross and the stud pattern on our coilovers is the same as all others (of course, wouldnt fit otherwise) so it should be an easy mod.

I havent tried it as we altered castor through a lower arm modification

I'll probably try that, although will be taking advice first as I have anti-lift kit fitted which already gives me more castor.

It worked well on my old D2's, which had a similar topmount. I had it setup with 1.5deg camber in the middle of the range, for road use, and pushed the strut all the way to max camber/castor for trackdays, although I never got measurements for the trackday setting. I did once leave it on the max setting for a few hundred road miles and whilst it felt ok I did get noticeable inside shoulder tyre wear.

I intend doing a bit more measurement this time around, with some back-to-back testing in the sprints/trackdays I'll be doing. The slotted topmounts are good for this, as it's a quick easy adjustment.

Suspension fitted today and I can report that changing the top mount to point toward the gearstick is a piece of cake, just spin it round till it points the right way and bobs your uncle!

Hi
did you get before and after geo readings to see how much extra camber/castor you got?

We are still playing but with the strut tops in the traditional position and the adjuster in as far as it will go we managed to get -1.5 camber without any camber bolts on the bottom. Didn't do a 'before' I'm afraid. In the diagonal position we haven't yet measured it properly but I guess it is very slightly less.

Do you not have one camber bolt on each front strut? I thought it was standard on all Imprezas (all classics at least) to have one camber bolt each side on the front.

On my previous struts with similar topmounts I had -1.5 with the strut-top in the middle of the slot (diagonal position), with a camber bolt each side.

Pretty sure they weren't camber bolts, didn't look anything like the whitleine ones anyway, they were just slightly bigger than the bottom ones.

Hi, Is the group buy on these coilovers still open?
I'm interested in a set of the normal type for a year 2000 classic shape P1. The car is used for fast road use and the occasional track day, what spring rates would you recommend?
Are the rear top mounts supplied alloy like the front adjustable mounts and will they still have the 3bolt fixings so my rear strut brace will still fit?
What is the final price including delivery?
Are these coilovers BC Racing coilovers as there seems to be no mention of the manufacture's name?
Sorry for all the questions

Hi,

Recieved mine today along with Whiteline bits.
On the box it says inverted SUBARU GDB 5KG/4KG and my car is MY05 WRX.
Also the locking rings on coilovers are pink coloured, not gold as advertised.

Can any one post instructions to fit as struts don't have sides marked!

I'm confused, will be calling Apex in morning.

Kemp

No Pics?

Mine arrived today. Very fast delivery!

Again no instructions and also a different colour!

The rods look very thin compared to the pics posted at the begining of this thread?

They look very much like re-badged Autobahn88 coilovers?

The Apex units are coloured black and red as standard, it was just the initial batch that were gold and red.

The coilovers are designed to be fitted by experienced and knowledgable mechanics only, theyre not the sort of thing that should be fitted and set up by someone without experience of this specific type of product hence no instructions.

The pics are of inverted units, you didnt buy the inverted version.

Those Autobahn coilovers arent the same as ours. The damper is a different design, the damping rate is harsher for low speed stuff, the range of adjustment isnt the same as ours, they dont have a bearing mounted spring platform etc. Theyre a different product.

That's fair enough, but none of this was expalined or outlined in your advert or when placing the order so you can imagine upon opening the box I was a little surprised that things were different to what I was expecting?
A little more acurate info in the advert and some pics would of helped. The advice over the phone was very good and so was the service & delivery!

Which way do the strut top adjusters turn, clockwise or anti-clockwise to increase hardness or soften the ride?
