Bren,
Regarding suppleness, has anyone tried the Apexes with 4/3 front/rear springs? I'm happy with my 5/4's for a-road and track but (no surprise) they're not the best on b-road or over potholes. However, with 210mm spring length surely there's a fundamental travel problem (applies to many coilovers, not just yours) ie. if you soften the springs then it will still hit the bumpstops on a pothole even though it might ride the b-road better.
Thinking about it, the whole strut could be 2" longer front and rear with a 3" longer spring. On my inverteds I've got ride height set as low as you would want to go on an Impreza (without screwing up the rollcentre on standard suspension arms) but still you have to reach up into the bottom bit to get to the damping adjuster. Greater length would give that all important travel missing in all the coilovers I've come across so far. Is there a reason for not doing this? Guess you might need more sophisticated/expensive dampers to cope with it though...

Fitted mine two weeks ago and I must say they are excellent, went for 5/4 springs. Originally had the shocks set to 5 clicks front & back now 6 clicks front and 7 clicks back, what settings are other people using?

I have a 53 Reg STI and I have a knocking noise from the rear left suspension strut, I beleive from searching on the forum it's a common problem.
I'm not going to lie, i'm not a mechanic and i'm not hugely clued' up on cars which often means paying the premium for simple things like oil changes etc but hey ho, speaking the truth and want my car to be well looked after.
Anyway will this suspension be a direct replacement and cure this issue? I'm thinking it could be a better way to go rather than replacing with standard issue Subaru parts as in 10,000-20,000 miles i'll end up with same issue potentially + would like the car to sit a little lower.

If its the original strut thats knocking then yes, a new set of coilovers will cure it.
What sort of ride are you after? Are you happy with standard or do you want it firmer?

I'm fairly happy with the STI suspension as standard, although would prefer it to be slightly firmer. I've no children yet so i've no major concern with ride comfort for other passengers as I would if I had children.
The car isn't generally used day-to-day more weekend fun.
Sounds like it should meet my requirements then which is great. Just need to ring around a few local places like X-Treme now to see what fitting and set-up costs will be.
Thanks for your response!

In theory no, it finished ages ago. In practice we still have lots of stock so Ive no problem with extending the special prices. I have no issue selling cheap as long as we sell in good numbers.

I see others have bought various bits.
If I just want to sort my rear strut issue and replace with these coilovers is it just the actually coilovers I need and nothing else?
Sorry i'm not mechancially clue'd up on cars hence the questions, do try to learn but never have the free time.
I'm completely unsure on the difference with normal and inverted, for someone like myself who doesn't do track days does like to have fun on the roads though and is just looking for good handling rather than expressing the limits of the car is they're much benefit in inverted.
I'll defo be ordering it's just a decision on what parts I need and what will suit my requirements best.

If its a faulty drop link bush etc thats causing the knocking then obviously changing the struts wont cure the cause of the problem
You need to get the fault diagnosed accurately if theres any doubt as to the basic problem and before3 you spend any money

is this apex in bradford?
tbh. i know nothing about suspensions. i just wanna know will a kit like this just make a car handle better? how does it affects the car in normal driving conditions?
how much would apex cost to fit this? ps... and the all in price.
does this lower the car. ( tbh i don't won't it lowered too much) it already scrapes some kerbs

Has these coilovers fitted for a couple of months now. Work well. Definately stiffen up the handling. Ride height is no lower on my car anyway. Normal driving is fine, if a little bumpy on B roads - but lots of confidence on A roads.
Mine were fitted by API. Took a while, but they balanced the car, fitted camber bolts, fitted an anti-lift kit and had all the geometry done.

Ride height can be set at whatever you want, I dropped mine 60mm at first but quickly realised this was way to low. Finally settled for 30mm drop all round, looks ace and drives well, firm but I like it so much, even on bumps
