Unfortunately not: Ive seen a traffic officer lie through his teeth and even completely change his story and the magistrates still accepted what he said..... Statistically, you have virtually no chance of being aquitted in a summary trial.

wrx300man your wrong, 99% of coppers are *******, you get the odd one or two who are sound but generaly they are.
ive had a couple of mates who became coppers and after a few months in the force i didnt want to know them as they turned into a pair horrible ****s who let the job get to there heads.
they make any crap up to do you if they dont like you, so best just keep a smiley face when get pulled and kiss some ****, be cocky with them and your going home with a ticket of some sort.
just go to court and say "i thought it was some one trying to jack my car as he was driving eraticly behind me he fallowed me for some time" and how you was intimidated by him and feared for your car and your life.

Not wishing to deviate from this thread however......i am sure there are some that are ******* but this is the same with any kinda job!!! they dont get paid highly enough for what they do! they never know what they are turning up to.. heroin addicts trying to attack them with infected needles, abuse galore (including threats to family) ,taking the dreaded death message to family, being the first on the scene to the death of a child and then having to deal impartially with the killer ,putting their lives at risks potentially every day...give them a break!!!

You need to play the "I was scared for my life card".. If the car was un-marked and he was following you closely and behaving in a strange manor make sure you push the point that you were scared that he was going to mug you/hijack the car and your first instinct was to get away to somewhere safe.

The little interaction I have had with them leads me to think most of them are either thick or pisssed on power.
I let one of the pusudeo speed cops out in his Vectra of a junction the other day. I did`nt have to but it was a busy road he was trying to get on to and we had just slowed down for a slight tail back. I did`nt have to let him out I could have just drove on but seeing as I`m such a knight of the road I thought I would do the decent thing. My thanks was not a wave of acknowledgement just a solid glare that would`nt have looked out of place if I had just killed his dog.
What is wrong with these people.
A couple of years whilst visting my Grandma she had a knock on her door, she asked me to answer as she did`nt like the look of the two fellas. As soon as i opened the door I knew they were grafting. They knew I knew they were up to no good and said they were doing odd jobs in the area. i just smiled and told them all the houses on the street were rented so they would be no good trying to do repairs as the land-lord took care of that type of thing the fella smiled back and made his excuses. I watched them walk down to another estate to make sure they were not going to be bothering any of my Grandmas neighbours. About 30 mins later I heard a police siren and said to my Grandma I bet thats to do with the 2 fellas.
Not long after I left, I started driving up the street and 2 of the youngest looking Old Bill were driving towards me. I slowed down & asked them if they were looking for 2 of the dodgiest looking fellas one could ever wish to meet. They told me that they had just pushed their way in to an old womans home pushed her to the floor and kicked her in the head and face and robbed her purse. They then said they thought they would be well away by now so they would just ahve a quick look around the streets and fill in a report. It felt like they did`nt want to catch up with the 2 fellas.
I had an idea where they had gone to baceause there is an estate about 1/4 away where all the houses are mainly occupied by old people. i asked the 2 Old Bill if they wanted to follow me and they could drive one half and I would cover the other half of the estate. They did`nt seem up for it to be honest but I shamed them into it. Low and behold the grafters were looking into one of the living room windows on the estate. I got out of the car waited for the boys in blue to come round to my side and pointed to where they were. i`m no grass but attcking old women is beyond me so I made sure the coppers were going to get these two.
My friends and I are no saints but we`re not into mugging like those scum-bags. We only get involved & have a laugh with people like ourselfs.
You guessed it the Old bill never said thank you.
I honestly don`t think the two young coppers would have fancied it if I had`nt shamed them into it.
As for the original thread, no i don`tr think you hear a thing about it to be honest. They`re (sic) all **** & wind.

Based on a lot of the attitudes towards the Police on this thread, I would suggest that if your beloved scoob is ever stolen, then you should call the Samaritans, you ungrateful sacks of s##t.
And before you suggest that the samaritans do a better job, and things like my car got nicked and the fuzz did nowt, or they're too busy eating do-nuts, then don't bother, its all been posted before and its boring.

The irony evident in that remark amuses me, although itll go over the head of most of the Police officers Ive had the pleasure to meet.
That the job is hard is obvious, but that doesnt justify the behaviour and attitudes that Im criticising.

One of my mates had exactly the same problem, he got tailgated by an undercover copper who just sat off his bumper in a sixty zone even though he could overtake, they went into a residential area (late at night) and Hey Presto nicked and 9 points on his license, the copper wouldn't take any responsibility.
Although I don't condone ragging it through a residential area the copper knew what he was doing. Probably just needed to up his arrest quota for the month.
All of this was in a different county to me, and me personally I have never had any issues with the local police even though I have been stopped a few times. Most have generally complemented me on the car (apart from the the obligatory job worth one) and the times when I have needed help from the police I have found them very helpful and quite normal.

Yeah thanks for that 'Lord', I've actually read your post this time. One part that particularly interests me is where you say you heard police sirens 30 minutes later after getting rid of the grafters. You know, most decent folk may have reported that earlier to the Police. Just think, that old lady who got kicked, I'm sure she's very thankful that you did f##k all aswell.

Wow, a *lot* of crap on this thread, esp on page 1.
So many people coming out with what the police can and cant do - most of it is so wrong its almost funny and I cant be bothered listing it all because I will be here all day!
My advice, you were, from your own admission on here - driving a bit beyond the law... so if you want to fight it then get a good solicitor and try but to be realistic you have a very difficult case to fight due to the type of offences you (may
) have commited and your actions on the day.

The problem with the police is the same problem as with politicians/prime ministers.
that problem is that the wrong kind of people want to become them.
The people that want the power are the worst people you could give power too.
Calling the police is a waste of time and basically just a necessity to get insurance claims sorted.
The police driving the streets and answering calls never actually arrive to catch the criminals.all they do is turn up with a note book and take down what happened.they are not a crime prevention they are crime journalists.
Occasionally an honest good person wants to be become a policeman to help but they are few and far between.
The police on higher levels do a good job but the ones we see every day are a waste of time.only there to pick up the peices and ask stupid questions.
The rest of you can say what you want and argue as much as you like but uniformed officers are just bully boys until they are called out on their own and bottle it.only throw there weight around when they outnumber you.

here what happened.
I'm driving with in the speed limit. when a blue astra joins the dual carrige way and comes into my lane! then swerves back out, with no signal. I carry on and it then starts to follow me for a while. Then I get to a set of lights where he comes to the side of me. 'At this point I made no eye contact and thought this person was a crack head' Any way I decided to boot it! I reached 60 in a 30 zone. I eased off 'noticed he was way back' He then started to tailgate me and follow me really closely. At this point I headed straight for home, he then followed, But I didnt stop and went out of a no entry. I then tried to go on the motorway and at the point, the astra was a copper and called for back up, and they pulled me. He said he's gonna report me and gave me a producer?

You've admitted to doing double the speed limit on a public forum.
Can't be bothered reading the uninformed 'facts' from the few on here with their vast knowledge!
You'd only get a few points in reality, and a small fine.
But if you just got a producer, then you just have to produce.
If you were told you were being reported then expect a court summons. That can be 6 months from the time of you being told - not the nonsense 14 days quoted by some.

A few points:
1. an unmarked police car cannot pull you over unless in EXTREME circumstances.
2. a copper on his own CAN pull you over in a marked car ONLY by using the blues lights.
3. If he gave you a producer he should have cautioned you."You do not have to say anything but...."
4. Speed can't be proven unless its a traffic car as they have cameras which are speed calibrated.
5. If it does go to court, I IMAGINE you thought it was someone trying to carjack you as you are aware Impreza's are highly stolen vehicles.
6. Trying to prove reckless driving is gonna be tough for thr copper

1. Wrong but you can only be done for failing to stop for an officer in uniform - the car is irrelevant. But it doesn't mean an officer can't try to stop you if out of uniform ....just you can't be prosecuted for failing to do so.
2. Wrong - that is one option, after flashing lights and indicating; as shown in the Highway Code.
3. Wrong - a producer (HO/RT/1) is issued to produce documents; you are not questonning a driver to obtain evidence. If you knew an offence had been committed you would report for it not issue a producer therefore no caution is required. You do not request a person to produce documents you know don't exist.
4. Wrong. Speed can be proved by opinion backed up by one other means ..... which case law says could be another officer - though in reality the CPS like another means, i.e a calibrated speedo, police pilot/vascar or a speedo which is either calibrated or has been checked as accurate as soon after the event as possible. The video is not speed calibrated; it show the reading from Police Pilot or Vascar. A normal police car speedo can be enough if then checked via a Laser or by being followed by a police car with calibrated speedo. Another option is for a 'normal' police car to be checked via Pilot/Vascar for accuracy or to find out how much the speedo is.
5. So what effort was made to contact police or were you driving to the nearest police station ? Why speed up if the person has made no move to ram you / stop you / run you off the road. Why not take the option to back off ? If they are in front it is easier to drop back or let them commit themselves on a road and then pull off legally at the last minute ?
6. Dangerous driving is not difficult to prove if the person is being open and honest and the other driver is not + their driving was very bad. If there are flaws in their argument and they are wrong then it will show up once the incidnent is talked through.
Ultimately only the individuals involved know exactly what went on .... we will only ever know what we read !

I couldn't be bothered to read your drivel john. Traffic cops are a breed apart. They most likely got bullied at school so want to make it up bullying the public and issuing tickets for eating an apple or 33mph in a 30. They make the rules as they go along.
In reality they should be out catching the real criminals but that would be too hard.
As for not getting paid enough you are having a laff. Huge overtime bonuses and a massive pension at the end of it is ample enough thanks. Why should they get anymore?
