Like I said - it takes 43 Litres when the gauge needle is on the bottom ...... quite why everyone keeps telling me I have a 60 Litre tank, I don't know!

So how do you know you now get 25mpg?
Going on your numbers:
43/4.545 = 9.46 gallons used to travel 350 miles.
350/9.46 = 37mpg
That's what you claim you usual get, yes?
If you havn't changed your driving style, your 12 gallons should still give you 440 miles, or '37 MPG'.
I still don't understand how you now get 25mpg, going by your figures. Mpg shouldn't change, regardless of the size of your tank.

Right, lets try and make this VERY simple for you.
Take 1 tank that you believe to hold 45 Litres and fill it up with fuel - run an engine with the contents of the tank until the engine stops ....... the engine has run the equivalent to 350 miles ..... 45 Litres is about 10 Gallons, so you believe that you have achieved 35 mpg.
Now, some clever-clogs comes along and says that it isn't actually a 45 Litre tank - it is a 60 Litre tank ....... you have all of a sudden achieved 26 mpg.
See? surely thats simple enough - even for you?

But if you can only get another 45 litres in after driving 350 miles, then you can only be doing 37mpg!!
How can your engine consume 60 litres of fuel between fill-ups if you can only ever add 45 litres to the tank????!!
Rocket scientist indeed!

Perhaps I'm a dummy ????? forget tank size - you know for a fact how many liters you have put in to fill up you know how many miles you have done. It's then a simple calculation to work out MPG.
Pete forget tank size it's never a factor in calculating MPG. You need the actual figs....... miles travelled against fuel used.
I see where your logic is coming from but it's badly flawed.......
Congrats with the good level of service from the Subaru.

37 mpg it is then ..... I'm not complaining, I'm happy that the general ScoobyNet community finally acknowledge that figure to be correct
Now, no more words of doubt ....... thanks all

Erm..... I think we can see that for ourselves Pete.
When you say that you are a 'Nuclear weapons consultant' or something, do you mean the kind that shows people how make 'Tracey Island' out of toilet rolls and fairy liquid bottles?

I would like some details on how your car
" humiliated many a 'performance car' and it has done so without a missed beat".
Please give details of the cars you "humiliated" and what kind of driving you had to do to "humiliate" them! Considering you are the most sensible driver ever how did you "humiliate" other performance cars without driving rather fast?
And don't say you did it on a trackday!

Also considering your car is factory standard, how on earth did it "humiliate" some other performance cars? What do you class as performance cars? Nissan Micras?

I've also seen the salaries on offer during one of their recent recruitment drives, not enough to get me out of bed I'm afraid.

Pete have you ever taken your car over 3-4k rpm ?
I know some old people have never done this and never exceeded or got close to speed limits, and this drastically shortened the life of their engines

Must be a real bummer to know that petrol is actually over £1/litre. After all, if you thought you were putting in 60 litres and only paying £50 you must have been wondering what all the fuss on petrol prices was?

You muppets - I knew I was putting 45 Litres in (or there abouts) and getting 350 miles to a tank. We have now bottomed out that I do, in fact, get 37mpg.
As for me humiliating performance cars .... the Micra concerned was a Si version and pretty nippy it was too!!
Do I take my car over 3k RPM? Very, very rarely ....... maybe once a week? And thats by accident usually. I think I did do 3500PRM when I burnt off the Micra Si with Mrs Smith the Vicars wife driving.

I got 37mpg once, but that was travelling at a constant 60mph, for 100miles in 30 degree heat. You DO NOT get 37mpg around town.
