Not that I believe your baby story for one second but isn't another way of looking at it that it's the fact these drugs are illegal that leads to such extreme methods of importation?

Can't quite work out why anyone hates Doherty either. He's just nothing as far as I'm concerned, I don't like his music but other than that I haven't any feelings whatsoever about him.
Could some of the hatred in fact be redirected jealousy?

It's about time they locked the druggie up.

The vast majority of crime in the UK is drug related, the next time you get your car stolen or house burgled it's more than likely it's going to have drugs involvement somewhere.

He shouldn't be allowed to show kids you can just keep leading a normal life while on drugs, he should have been banged up years ago and made an example of.

Cheers

Now would I stir things up with a dead baby Urban Legend

It is still wrong that his recidivist behaviour is tolerated, it still wrong to assume that class A drug ownership is a victimless crime and IMHO the Beatles are still sh*t

It's illegal to possess the drugs in the first place and he's been caught time and time again therefore why shouldn't he face punishment?

PS Can't stand the Beatles or Babyshambles

No - still think the Beatles are sh*t and if not being a sheep and following the herd makes me naive then bring it on

This is clearly this most stupidly ignorant comment this user has ever posted, and he's posted a few. I suppose it's intended as a 'really amusing' pslewis style wind up – or as an indirect admission of his own lack of talent and personal success perhaps?

Personally, I think I'll stick with Howard Goodall's summary of the Beatles. At least he knows what he's talking about:

From a standing start, knowing only a handful of chords between them, John Lennon and Paul McCartney turned themselves into the most influential composers of the late twentieth century. Their music wasn’t just immensely popular. It also proved that traditional western harmony – the main building block of European music – still had plenty to offer. (Even though avant-garde composers had turned their back on it.) By mixing pop and classical techniques, and cross-fertilising them with Indian, and electronic music, The Beatles refreshed and revitalised western harmony. They also transformed the recording studio from a dull box where you recaptured your live sound, into a musical laboratory, of exciting and completely new sounds. This was one of the most crucial advances in the way popular music was to be produced. But Lennon & McCartney didn’t just influence all popular music that followed them. They influenced classical music too. The leading classical composers of our own era have turned back to traditional harmony. More than anyone, Lennon & McCartney prefigured this trend. They showed that the old musical forms could be refashioned and refreshed, to make music that was both exciting and popular, and sophisticated and new. They, more than anyone, saved the western musical tradition from extinction, and gave it a new purpose and a direction. Not bad going for two boys who met at a local church fete and taught themselves their instruments.

Notwithstanding the drugs issue (which in my eyes is not a conservative "guy does drugs....shocker send him to jail" attitude, more a "why should the everyday guy on the street go down for doing similar and he get away with it repeatedly" attitude), I just really think he comes across as a complete pr1ck anyway all IMO of course.

At least not as stupidly ignorant as you who lives vicariously on others intellect (and sadly feeling the need to cut and paste that here) and when that fails simply resort to abuse.

I am not sure how not being particular about the Beatles is any calibration of success or otherwise. It may simply be a matter of taste. Hey, some people think Mozart was rubbish and yet he was quite a popularist in his day and his music is still followed the world over.

So my advice to you is get out more, get a life and stop fawning over pseudo-intellectual neurotic boy outsiders and definitely stop sniffing your mothers underwear you egregious little man.

Give up.

On second thoughts - if it's just a matter of taste, let's hear what your taste provides in terms of quality - who's your all time best band?

Can someone post up some examples of Pete Doherty's brilliant lyrics please? Then perhaps we can judge him on that rather than tabloid tittle tattle.

Oooh, I love a challenge

Oh well, you've scuppered my best laid plans,
I can't believe you've just dismiss my pleas right out of hand
I can't believe you've listed everything I stole since we met
But I stole no kisses, just some books and a butterfly net.

LOL, the fekkin idiot, a butterfly net, what's he doing stealing a butterfly net?

This could be rather a difficult challenge

Can I put down a benchmark from Elliott Smith who is my favourite lyricist, from a song about a girl who's killed in a car accident:

She took the Oldsmobile out past Condor Avenue
Cops were running around the scene
Looking for some kind of clue
They never get uptight when a moth gets crushed
Unless a light bulb really loved him very much
I'm lying down
Blowing smoke from my cigarette
Little whisper smoke signs that you'll never get
You're in your Oldsmobile driving past the moon
Headlights burning bright ahead of you
And someone's burning out on Condor Avenue
Trying to make a whisper out of you

With regards to the drug use - It's his body, he was caught with a personal stash, not kilos of the stuff, hence he is not being convicted for intent to supply.

I'm not sure where you get the idea he has contempt for other people though.
Exactly, he's only doing what most of us do/have done, but has been caught. As he stated on J.Ross about stopping being caught.

It's the press that blow it all up and make his life story an available book.

Don't know the guy, or dis/like him, he's just a druggie. But then most of are or know of others that are, but they're not in the same public eye.

But if you have, then you've been in possession and the only difference is that he got caught for it. The point i was making.

No excuse for driving with no ins/tax etc. But i'm sure everyone is guilty of speeding at some point.

He's just in the papers a lot, press blowing things up. Shock-horror, he's in possession of drugs. Who isn't...

I think some sense of proportion is required. It's a bloke who has gotten addicted to class A drugs. He is trying to get off them - From your link

He's not a child murdering, mother raping devil worshipper - He's a drug addict that's trying to sort it out.

Massively talented lyricist.

However, he is obviously the antichrist as far as the Scoobynet respectible conservative voting masses goes
I think he rocks and am an ageing 30 year old. So what, he doesn't want to conform with this society... as long as he doesn't hurt anyone else, let him live his life.

Fair enough then, but you're definitely in the minority.

So how can you possibly make a comment like this:

B*llux! If he was trying to sort it out he'd be off them.
If you've never been an addict, how do you know how easy it is to get off them. Just ask an alcoholic/smoker, nevermind Class A's.

The dude needs a good sorting out true, but people are blowing his life out of proportion for possession of drugs.

So he buys his class A drugs from the Chemist does he?

Of course not he buys from dealers backed by the organised crime gangs and syndictes.
The proceeds from which are ploughed into other criminal activities like credit card fraud, high end vehicle theft and lets not forget the people who are exploited and abused on the back of this activity and we wont even mention one of the main exporters are the taliban so he could be funding terrorism.

Class A drug use is not a victimless crime.

Agreed.

I have a large circle of friends, workmates and family and although drugs are around I dont know anyone who has taken or inhaled class A drugs or even milder stuff like cocaine.
I'm in my 30's so it may be different for the younger crowd but I dont believe that the majority of the population have used drugs for a second, most of the population are not that stupid.
