The gentlemens agreement was suggested by the government with the companies agreement and they obviously did so, sorry my mistake .

Not the gospel but
Classic Impreza - ScoobyPedia

The STI had dccd ,i/c waterspray (so you paid more) ,and was faster 0-60 and throught he gears, whereas the WRX came with less and wasn't as fast 0-60 and throught the gears and you paid less but still hit the same top speed as all japanese cars were limited to 112mph.As i said the power delivery of the STI is a lot harder then the wrx (i.e you can't/shouldn't put an STI ecu in a wrx the boost pressure, fuelling etc).

I don't really think that top speed was in Subarus' mind as all japanese cars were limited to 112mph
no worries

the scoobypedia is wrong, don't forget all it is is a site that anyone can update with whatever comes to mind...

you are correct the sti does have far more kit (including uprated internals), which was designed to deal with the higher power output-they are completely different beasts with completely different hardware. as for top speed, agreed the 112 limit makes it pointless...but the second improvement to 60 the sti has over a wrx isn't

I did point out that scoobypedia/wikipedia is not gospel.

It's all the 'trickery' that gives the STI it's advantage with the same power as you pointed out the quicker acceleration.

But i still maintain that the facelift model wrxs had 276ps

you are wrong, see if you can find anyone else that agrees or better still someone with a facelift import thats had it dynoed as standard...

btw its 276bhp not 256ps for the sti's, a subtle but definite difference

sorry that was a typo doh.

Dynomite Scoobies : Rob Carr's car

Dynomite Scoobies : Mike Whittingham's car

Dynomite Scoobies : David Hodgkinson's car (nearly 300 standard).

Not the best dyno printouts tbh.
But to be far they are some on there that needed a couple of breathing mods to make 280bhp

I have a UK Turbo My99 with full electrics inc mirrors, air con and really nice leather interior, guess they must have been optional extras when it was bought? how much would they have cost? just out of interest, its a shame they didn't come with the leather as standard would have helped with the poor interior comments always made...oh and it has the white dials but I think that's because its a 99?

....classics 99 to 2000 got to be the best scoobs ever ....lol sorry couldn't resist, love em all

talking of typos, looks like i got the figures wrong too; 276 not 256

I know of only a handfull of people that have achieved 300bhp or over with a TD04 and thats with a lot of work...thats a very friendly dyno

those torque figures look much more accurate for standard cars...

I'll second that! What put me off a JDM when I was buying was the type of driving I do - mostly motorway, so with the shorter gearing, and me sitting on the motorway at 90-100mph all the time, I reckon a Jap market car would last about two months in my hands. My MY99 UK classic copes with it fine though (apart from the horrendous fuel consumption)!

I had a MY00 from new.

Air con on a MY99 was an optional extra and cost about £1500. Was a dealer fit before the car was released to you. Think the seats were the same ie they'd be removed and trimmed in leather locally (but I'm not certain of that)

White Dials are standard on MY99 / 00

I'm not sure what you mean about the mirrors. Yeah they are electronically controlled for movement. But they aren't electronically heated on MY99 / 00 which is bizarre as even the old legacy have heated mirrors.

I agree with you, I think MY99 / 00 are the best models to have. Got rid of the my00 and got an RB5 which I've had for over 5 years now.

Cheers Phill

So a Turbo 2000 has only 215 bhp. I thought they were more around the 240. Oh well i'll try and get a quate for a import wrx but looks like the only way I will be driving a Impreza is on Colin Macrae.

help me then please people

i have a my99 (facelift) turbo 2000!

all what seems to be different between the wrx and the turbo 2000 is cosmetic things....(and that dam bright switch that blow my dash lights up lol)
so can i put a wrx ecu in my turbo 2000 and make it 240bhp???

i have a few mods on my car and it is a little bit quicker then my friends wrx! (crazy)
so top gears maths in my eyes is that if i was to get a wrx ecu aswell i would have alot more bhp with out going silly

Thanks alan

I can't answer your main question about the ecu, but I WILL say that you need to be careful about running any mods on that car without some sort of a map-tweak.

Care to say what mods you have?

-50 pts if you say "dump valve".

thats fine

i have a closed deck block re-bored with over side pistons and rings
new piston squirter's
api head gasket multi layer metal one (think it's a 1.2mm one)
acl race bearings (red)
sti con-rods
yellow injectors (standard)

( i was going for big bhp but got really ill when i was building it and no work means no money. so i had to put standard rods and piston in coz i wanted to drive it so bad! and every day i ask myself why i didn't just wait to put forged pistons and rods in lol

k&n cone filter
front mount inter-cooler
decat down pipe
custom exhaust (only one box in the system hehe

red stuff pads all round
rota wheel wheels

she is quite standard really tho

and no dump valve tho!! it's turbo chatter all the way coz it sounds amazing people say it's bad for the turbo i know, but when i tell them that it's the original turbo being a 1999 car (14 years old) they don't know what to say lol

no i haven't :/ i never get fuel cut tho and it's running 16psi of boost

i know i need to get it remapped but deep down i wanted to build a forged engine and get that remapped!!
tbh i had had no trouble with the engine at all! only exhaust gaskets and i rebuild it 5 years ago this march!!

i live on the isle of wight and api is miles away and don't really no what else there is!

but what bhp do you think i would get with them mods ( safely )

and thanks for the concern tho m8

One thing that may worth looking into is, the classic are now old enough to have classic car insurance, which can work out tons cheaper.

You will normally have to be over 21 to get a classic policy and usually you will not earn no claims with these types of policy.

My old BMW e30 Alpina cost me £116 a year full comp with 8000 miles allowance, where as if I did it on a normal premium I was quoted £600-£700 a year.

How much power, and how many revs do you need to get a UK Classic to 165mph?
