Paid my £10. SN has been a hell of a lot more helpful and a better place to be than other forums I've been on. I run my own and hope that we're as busy as SN one day

Ok, I have worked it out. For anyone else having problems (I think Simon may have mentioned this previously though) here is what you need to do to activate your new membership.
Click here which will take you to the Group Membership options in your User CP. Then select the new option that appears there, for example, Orange Club. Click Update Display Group and Volia! New group status

BTW: New heading in blue looks good, eyes are not bleeding so much now, plus seeing the additional benefits there is a bonus too.

I'd strongly suggest you do not allow images in signatures at all. I've been on some forums that allow them and they really do break things up. Textual sigs are just about bearable (including hideously colo(u)red ones ). Take for example the Standard ECU Inside one displayed above, if that was a signature and appeared on every post made by a user then it would become very tedious indeed, not to mention that others would no doubt create larger image based sigs and that could well effect the bandwidth of the site. I'd rather see a size (pixel and byte) limited avatar as an option and a graphical signature (or instead of a sig)

Im with Markus on this one, please please please dont allow graphics in signatures
would prefer not to have avatars as well
I know they can be turned off, but would it not be extra resource on the site regardless?

I think pictures in Signatures are great - apart from the fact that when people multiple posts on one thread having the same pic appear again and again definately does not look good - the same with overly complex (or gaudy ) text signatures.
Would it be technically possible to limit the signature to the users first post in any particular thread? - or their first post on any one page?
I'm sure BBSs around the world would gratefully receive such a modification to their forum structure!
Probably decrease internet traffic by 1/2
Cheers
Mick

Signatures would need moderating too. I've seen a fair few dodgy sigs on various other forums.
I'm happy to not have any sigs, text or graphical, or avatars.
With regards to showing the sig once per thread page, Simon, it might be worth having a read of this thread, which is a hack for such, but there are comments mentioning a change to postbit template to add a conditional element (if statement) which could be used to do this.

Ok here is my take on the changes (you know me always have an opinion)
1. Simon, please please no avatars This has been discussed before in depth over the last year or so in numerous threads and the consensus is that , whilst a display of your individuality, they are instrusive, hog bandwidth, are difficult and annoying to adminstrate and just plain downright ugly.
2.Signatures...mmm. Now the jury is out on this. Simon, when we were discussing the (you know what ),that was one of the things that was a benefit in the control panel of disabling it, including avatars. Now i do see the benefit of a version of signature (they can be useful), but i think the key here is "in moderation" . Now if the members who have access to this feature can be restrained in their endeavours then we might be onto a postive thing (as an example, see Markus sig.it is useful and relevant, even if he is a geek )
3. Coloured usernames...I dont have an issue with these at all as long as it keeps that loud mouthed geordie happy, then so be it
4. Search function....this is where I hope the extra funding is going to be put to good use. As i mentioned earlier, I think you need to prioritise it to certain elements of the forums, namely scoobypedia, which in time will reap the benefits if it is linked. Similar in the way to certain searches bring up FAQ's or regular answers to common questions. So for example, if a search is done on " Uploading or putting pictures in posts" and the result is linked to a common wrtite up or FAQ in scoobypedia, then it has done its job. Just an idea
anyway that is my 2p's worth

Some valid points there. I know the first part of my sig makes eyes bleed, but I was testing out what could be done. The second part is, well, I'm a geek so I like to help out. I was hoping I might be able to put a url in there to point to the CR section, but I can see why that would not be allowed, as others would link to who knows where, leading to all sorts of problems.
