#91
I honestly couldnt begin to list how much money Scoobynet, its information, its users and its links / contacts have saved me over the years!!
I truely would have been lost without it coming from a background where I new very little about Imprezas!
A fantastic resource, full of great people willing to help!
Im happy I can contributing to the development of Scoobynet!

Thanks guy
I know I keep saying thanks, but (and this may sound a bit pathetic to some! ) it really is quite heart warming to see so much support
I really appreciate it.

As you have said it is very little £ for such a good site, but dont forget the information is all from users posts and you are just maintaining a DB for users to further populate/search. It has obviously become so popular and become quite a large commercial concern (companies paying to advertise etc) unlike the other smaller boards, my worry is that there will be future charges etc etc
I have gained a wealth of information from the very helpful folks in the photography forum, ive had help from my DIY attempts, I have had technical help by some very knowleadgable people, and in turn I have helped other people as my knowledge has increased
We (D.K.1 and myself) have had invaluable help in pointing us in the right direction towards one of our kids and diagnosis.
We have made some very good friends, found a very good home for our 'Lost Dog'
I have searched countless times for a whole variety of information, and pretty much always got what I was looking for
There may well be more charges in the future, as the site continues to grow, the costs rise to maintian everything at a level that us end users expect, demand, rely on
People have been complaining about the speed of the site, a resolution to this would be to turn search off completly, but then everyone would complain so it is possible now that SN need to invest more in the back end solution that keeps SN running, and to try and maintain (at a minimum) and improve where possible the level of service we have all come to expect
If this means Subs go up, or new features introduced at a very small cost to us end users, then I for one am willing (and have done) to pay and help contribute to the running costs
I have gained, and still do gain from SN far more than the money I have ever put into Scoobynet

I just paid £5 because Sonic' said I would get a free fish if I did
So far I havent received a fish, nor any other member of 80's rock band Marillion
I have however supported the best forum called Scoobynet that I have ever used
Did anyone find out if it was too late for Mr Fish's apology to Kayleigh?

They are currently limited to 4 lines, and no images. I think this is going to be ok for now, but we'll adjust this as necessary

Thank you
As said before though, the ESC badge payments are to help pay for the set up and running of the clubs's own forum, and there will also be some additional benefits to club badge holders in the near future.
So this is a completely seperate thing.

hmm, didn't see your last post until after I typed my first reply. I'm sorry you feel that way, but I'm afraid you've just completely misunderstood the entire concept.

Thanks again to everyone who is supporting us, this really makes a big difference, and we're going to work hard to make sure that everyone who supports in this way gets as much benefit as possible.
All the best

I dont follow the logic. Obviously money will be raised to pay for bandwidth - is that all that is causing the issues or is it server architecture?

Good idea - I'm happy to pay the fiver, as I'm sure I've saved hundreds and hours of swearing just by using the search on here to tap into the knowledge pool. Will also help seperate serious SN members from the trolls on here.

Simon - if everyone signs up to be a full member, orange member or whatever, how will this solve the search speed issues, it will be the same people searching just with more money in the SN coffers?
I dont follow the logic.
I dont follow the logic.
OK.. firstly. Not everyone will sign up. So your logic is being skewed by this assumption.
Secondly, we will have more money to pay for the upgrades to the servers, and other infrastructure which just always continues to increase as time goes on.
So.. Less searching = less load on servers.
More money = better servers.
-----
less load + better servers = miles better service.

Also as others have poined out, by using the google search (for those who wont throw a fiver in) the strain on Scoobynet search will help to maintain the speed, and not slow things down too much, if the level of users pay the fiver/tenner etc then money will be there to ease the cost of upgrades in whatever form they take
It may also allow Scoobynet to be able to offer better/extra/different features and benefits to all paying members
