Flying the Union Jack

I am proud to be English and love seeing the cross of St George flying proudly...
The Union Jack (pedant or not it's all I'll ever call it) represents Great Britain and I dont class myself as British.
Some forms I fill out ask for nationality and they have tick box choices, always one with British, never one with English. I always tick other and write in "English"...

Abdabz the Union flag actually represents the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
[/pedant]
I must admit, on forms I generally fill my country of birth in as England too

Nope
As CrisP pointed out a little later, clearly Royal Marines are better at remembering what they are taught A jack is flown from the bow of a warship:
"Jacks are additional national flags flown by warships (and certain other vessels) at the head of the ship. These are usually flown while not underway and when the ship is dressed on special occasions.
In the Royal Navy the Union Flag at sea serves both as a naval jack and as the rank flag of an Admiral of the Fleet. It is illegal for a merchant ship or yacht to fly the Union Flag: a civilian jack (sometimes known as the pilot jack as it was formerly used to request a pilot) exists, and consists of the Union Flag with a white border. The St George's Cross flown from the jack staff is known as the Dunkirk jack, and is customarily flown by ships and boats which took part in the Dunkirk rescue operation in 1940. The flying of the St George's Cross elsewhere on a civilian ship is illegal, as it is the rank flag of a four-star admiral." (From Wikipedia - easier to cut and paste than type it all out, sorry).
I will, however, admit that I said "jack stay" when I mean "jack staff" the stay being the line that secures the staff upright.
The ensign is flown from the stern. Which, if you American, is probably considered a little cruel...

I'm happy to fly the flag. I would have it on the back of my Landy if I could find a decent one...
