Aww, poor thing I had a dog years ago that the lad I was with at the time (Bastid) pushed off the edge of the path that went into a little stream, the poor thing was only a few months old and his leg was broke, there was no stopping him once the cast was on him though!

Glad yours turned out OK and not too serious

Sti, we can't see it being rat poison as there's none where he will have been, only thing i can think of if it is, is that some may have come into the garden and left traces and he could have picked something up by licking or chewing grass etc

We'll know soon enough I guess, but as Sonic said, the loss of blood is worrying and the amount that came up in the vets was shocking, it's really upset me seeing him like that, and he still had a wag in his tail

Couldn't see the floor for blood this morning....

Sonic has posted what happened, really not nice seeing him splat blood all over the vet's surgery then spew a load up

We have no idea as yet until they get back to us, hopefully it won't be long...

If it is poison the following is useful. And not all bad news.

FamilyFun: Ask the Vet: Dog Ate Rat Poison - and More Family Fun

Perhaps he could have half-eaten a poisoned rat or similar??

Good luck.

I understand they are trying to establish a national blood bank for dogs and other animals, it's situations like this where having that facility would pay dividends. I need to look in to how it's done as while I'd like to include our mutt in this, I can't see him sitting still long enough!

Interesting....the vet mentioned giving him vitamin K for the clotting.

Unless someone has come in and planted poison in our garden, or as suggested, he's caught and ate a rat then I am baffled as to how he would have ingested such a thing. I will go and have a look in the garden again to see if there is anything (part of a rat etc) he usually catches birds though, but the last one he had was about 2 or 3 weeks ago now....

Whatever's caused it, it doesn't look good

I haven't looked at the pics as I'm squeamish but it sounds horrible, I know I'd be very upset and worried if it was our dog

Fingers crossed he'll be ok, please keep us posted.

I have checked the garden and there's nothing at all as far as I can see, no half eaten birds or rats or anything like that

It's a mystery until the vet calls I guess.

Perhaps he ate a bird that had bird flu ! you don't know how long it would take a dog to react to summat like that. Looks nasty whatever it is.

We got rid of the shed ages ago, all that's where it was are a few bricks, an old BBQ, some fencing, plant tubs and sludge from the pond filter

I was wondering if he hay have chewed on a twig and accidentally swallowed it

Hope Scooby gets better soon it does sound like he has ingested something that has caused it, unless he was a bit under the weather for a while. Or, it could be a sudden rupture of some internal organ? Hope you get to know the diagnosis soon and he gets cured to full recovery.

Thanks TH, could be anything

He did appear to have a cold last week, sneezing and constant runny nose, but it was clear until last night so thought it was probably the weather as me and the kids have come out with it too now, so posibly related to that

I'd be surprised if the vomiting was caused by bleeding in the stomach, more likely he is swallowing blood from the back of his nose and it is this that you are seeing when he vomits which hopefully is making it look much worse than it is.

With a bit of luck they will be able to sort out the cause of the nose bleed and the vomiting will stop.

Steve's just been in touch...

They can't find where the bleeding's coming from or why His stomach is full of blood and going black because of stomach acid or something. So they're still looking to try and find out what it could possibly be.

They want him to ring back about 3 ish

No mention of blood tests, so don't know if they've done them yet or are waiting on results, no idea how long it takes

Quick Reply: Dog has got a nose bleed, lot of blood
