I wouldn't be too concerned, he's been through a lot and as his red blood cell count is down so much he will be a bit lethargic...

He'll be running about and being a pest before you know it!

I did wonder if the blood loss accounted for his lack of energy, as well as the injection yesterday.

He's not really showing much interst in anything and I am finding it odd that he doesn't want to go out at all, even for a wee

I am hoping he will perk up with the antibiotics, but not sure how long they take to work, he's having another dose later today

I'm not a vet / doctor but i would imagine the blood loss would defo affect energy levels...

Chin up! (both you and Scooby!)

Another update which is looking a lot more positive

The Vet has just called to say they have had the bacterial results back, and Scooby has a high count of staphylococcus intermedius in his nasal area

Apparently dogs have some of this on their skin anyway, but nowhere near the amount Scooby has had in his nose

She thinks that this could be the cause of his problems, and caused the nose bleeding which in turn has caused a lot of the blood to go into the stomach

Now she said they still havent had the Aspergillosis results back and that will be monday or thereabouts, what she has said is to keep on the Antibiotics and she will prescribe some more

So hopefully it will just be that now, and that he will be on the mend

Hope that's it and not the aspergilliosis or whatever it's called! He has a far better chance of recovery now

lol

I have only come across staphylococcus aurus, and I thought that was a dinosaur until I did my basic food & hygiene course many years ago, it is a different strain though

Just hope the Aspergillosis results come back clear

LOL

I haven't a clue either, the only time I have heard anything like it it has been associated with food poisoning or meningitis, I think

Yes and no, up to now it is looking to me with the extremely high bacterial content that it is that which has caused all this, BUT we still haven't had the aspergillosis results back yet, so there is still the possibility that could show something up I am hoping both for Scooby AND our pockets that this isn't the case and it is just the bacterial infection

He had definitely perked up, was pretty lively yesterday evening and today, although he is still sleeping a lot and not wanting to go out for a pee etc, he only had one bowl of water yesterday and didn't finish it, he needs to drink more, but I can't make him

Just got back... he's staying in for the next hour for observation, it's likely they will refer him to the animal hospital again for an overnight stay, although she did mention him coming home if he seemed OK.

TBH I think I would prefer him to be there overnight for fear of coming down to a scene like Monday's again, if he bleeds like that again in the night we would either lose him during the night or come down to a blood bath, at least if he's there overnight being checked they can act on it and do something, but even then we could still lose him.

I'm upset as he's seemed far better today than any day this week, although he's only had a few laps of water and not touched his food His lack of interest in food and water has worried me a bit.

Vet wants to start Aspergillosis treatment despite the fact we don't have the blood result back and I felt she was pretty smug, smiling when she said it, as if it turns out not to be that, we will have had expensive treatment we do not need looks like the cost will keep spiralling.

Thanks, every post that has been made has actually meant quite a lot to us through all of this.

Steve's just gone back to the vet, so he will probably post when he gets back with an update of some sort.

Vet also said he could have both the bacterial infection AND the aspergillosis I was hoping it would just be bacterial and the antibiotics would see him through

Sonic's still not back so don't know what to expect

Due to hubby being a cat man and due to us now owning the worlds most annoying cat, I have to live out my dog ownership through SN - so really hope everything works out OK for you.

Not looking too good

Steve's just text me.

All the time Scooby has been there he's not bled once, as soon as they brought him out, he started sneezing it everywhere, so he's been given a sedative to calm him down and lower his blood presure and is now on the way to the emergency vet / animal hospital to stay over night

He really can not afford to bleed again like he did on Monday
