Our council accept asbestos cement at the tip; you let them know in advance and they give you some visqueen to wrap the sheets in. Then you just take it and they open the asbestos skip for you to put it in. There was a limit to how many sheet's they'd let us take in a month, so we had to do it in two trips.

Well as asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral the whole world’s population is potentially at risk, including you....

In practice, because the risk from small exposures is so low, only those who are regularly exposed are significantly at risk.

If it's corrugated asbestos cement, suit up, FFP3 mask, goggles, wet it, double wrap and off you go, any other type nooooo.

Alternatively phone up your local gypsy and tell them it's magic cement that needs to be sawn, drilled, smashed up and sniffed like charlie to bring them all the barbequed hedgehogs they can eat.

Ferk it, decision made. I'll put it on ebay with a buyer collects thingymebob on it and see what happens.

OR

Do like the simpsons did with their trampoline, i'll chain it to something and sooner or later someone will nick it!

Seriously though, the council will take it. Wednesday mornings there is a special skip for it. All you gotta do is double bag it, get them to come and inspect it (you get a "safe disposal" cert) and then take it to the tip on said day.

Andy.

P.S. as regards smashing it up

Professional advice will cost nothing, better safe than sorry!!!

Yeap, I was exposed to this stuff as a kid too and became a bit "so what" in attitude, however later I watched a family member die of asbestosis that certainly changed my mind, it was a horrible slow painfull death at a young age.

I would not take any risks at all with this stuff.

Moved into a house with an asbestos garage. I was a bit 'green' really and should have made it a condition of the sale that the garage went with the previous owner, so to speak. However, that was then and this is now and hindsight is a wonderful thing.
