You should have spoken to your 'Well Known Scooby Tuner' rather than post on here then

Yeah, right ... was going to pay, was going to be a member, was going to do this, was going to do that, now I'm taking my stumps and bat home with me cos you don't play fair

The absolute, engineers, advice is very, very, simple ....... as all good things are:-

Put Semi-Synthetic 10W-40 Halfords or Comma Oil in and change every 6 months ....................... everything else is plain and utter bollox, that's just the way it is.

Only reason i called was because i was getting no hope here otherwise i wouldnt of bothered.

And what you was saying about the oil there, i honesly didnt no.
Genuine question, is this forum just more more mechanic type people, is there a another froum to use for scoobys with questions like mine?

And I was going to sign up full member, as you cant into alot of things without being a full members.

Awwwwww Wayne, come here, have a big cuddle ....

You should know that Oil Threads get silly .. no-one knows what they are talking about bar a few.

Me, of course, and some down-to-earth mechanics who know what's what and care to post ............ sadly, the ***** drag it down

So, look on the bright side ... next time you will spend £14 for 5 litres and save yourself a small fortune

Result, if you ask me

Pete made a good point for once.
If 10 people say use oil 'x' and 10 people say use oil 'y', which do you use?
Best thing is to search and then make a decision.

Well thanks for that. Nice to know anyone is welcome on this site. Seems i was wrong.

Really cant belive all this, I asked a question what may be to you a simple question, and just wanted to know on the TWO oil i listed.

I didnt ask what oil should i use out of all the oils out there, i did research and narrowed it down to two. maybe some has had a bad experiance with one of the oils i listed , i dont no.

I didnt even know you had to prefill a oil filter before putting it on either till i was reading some oil thread .. Learn sommin new everyday!

And no he didnt think i was a troll, he said nothink wrong in asking if you dont no,better to ask and do it right then guess and maybe **** it up.

And your right on one thing tho mate , ignore the post of not liking them

anyway guys i have sorted it now so im happy with that. Sorry if it was a stupid question.

You see Pete got it right, trouble with oil is that you dont always choose the best one, you just choose one that suits you
Now if you would have asked which oil to use rather than saying which of the 2 oils (as everyone has a different opinion on the matter) you may have got a different out come (or not )

If you read the drivers manual supplied with the car,it will give you a guide on which grade to use for the style of driving you do.If all else fails, get advice from your Scooby dealer.Im using Castrol Edge 5W/30 as recommended by local dealer in my02 Sti dynod at 320bhp.

I wouldnt use a 30 rated oil, thats too thin, a 40 is the lowest you want to go, if your after fully synthetic then a 5w40 or higher (motul or the likes) but a 30 will make your car sound like a bag of spanners (and its not recommended to use in the handbook either except extreme cold conditions and not pushing it either!)

Thats fair point mate, I see where your coming from there.

Castrol Recommend Castrol Edge 10/60 so it says on there site.

Im just going to try all of them, thats the only way i will find out I spose.

Might give the Castrol edge a go 10/60. Dare i ask but is there a certain grade to use to keep oil temps lower

The theory is that a lower viscosity oil will run cooler as the flowrate is higher.
A good, full synthetic oil will be fine at 125C but it's VERY unlikely you'll ever see that kind of temp. on the road, unless you run very low on oil!

Your comment holds about as much water as a tea strainer.

Why is it, if a new member asks a legitimate question, albeit one that might have been asked numerous times before, that they're jumped on and insulted?

I don't get it... it's the bloody same on the soul scene. Like some underground anoraks corner where those 'not in the know' are sneered at, belittled and driven out.

It was a genuine question from a new member; not some chav talking about his oversized ****!

So omit the word 'new'. The term **** still applies lewis. Considering you've got over 22 thousand posts and he's only got under 500 I think I'm entitled to refer to him as new.

Where you're concerned, it's always the wrong time of the month.

So 40 is about right, 50 is borderline viscous for a newage and you want to put 60 in. Hmmmm, good choice.

It is fine for the older engines, not recommended for the new age.

Go for extra virgin olive oil mate - if you get a bit hungry on a run you can drop a couple of sausages in there for a quick snack - nice. Better for you figure as well if you watching your weight.

Remember though that if you changing it yourself you must be watched by two Morris dancers at 3pm when the wind blows south west and there is only one bird sitting on the phone line – or your crank sensor & MAF will fail and you will have to get whole engine rebuilt. Oh, also make sure you hand crank the engine 3 turns first with your left hand whilst hopping on one foot before you start the engine.

Enjoy.

Still don't see how a user of 2 years can't use the search function. All this thread has done is contribute to an already messy subject.
