That's not what the poster is asking.
Why don't people share their past driving situations/experiences in relation to the topic that may assist the question rather than generalising.
Me.....I took on a Carrera 4 (can't remember the model) in my Bugeye and stayed with it till 80. There you go................real world example.
From my experience I think the Type R will do us proud.

LOL well yes I have had a 'real life' experience with a newish C4S, mixture of dual carriageway and sweeping A-roads. It was a great drive, is all I'll say. Me in my v4 WRX wagon loaded up with a chest of drawers in the back, him in the 911, both going for it at every opportunity. No way of telling really which was faster, it was fairly even, not that it really matters. The two cars do different things.

Porsche made for track, impreza rally. Take him out for a gravel race:-)
I weighted my STI 3 Type-R when registrated it in Sweden. 1260 kilo fully fueled up (-3 or 4 litres) and with spare tyre and some tools in the boot.

Had a short blast against a carrera convertable last night, dunno what model it was, just said carrera on the back and was a year old i think...i was stuck behind him on a dual carriageway just after leaving the roundabout and he was slowly overtaking a van,he pulls into the left lane after overtaking it so i floor it,and he bloody does too staying one car length in front of me,obviously thought it would be funny to not let me overtake him
we stayed the same distance apart until reaching xxx mph, where another vehicle was in his lane so he moved into mine...after that short blast he pulled to the left again and eased of the gas as did I,when i went past he waved me by
...friendly chappy ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I've had a short experience with a 911(996) Carrera 4S on a 53 plate, it was on a private road of course, we both got up to around 100 mph on the straights slowing down for a couple of private roundabouts and then powering through. I stayed with it all the way, he was not puling away at all. I then had to take a different turning, I flashed him and he flashed his hazards back. It was all a bit of fun and we had respect for eachother so no harm done

Followed a 911 home from work the other days. Fella was getting a good seeing to around the wedding tackle region. Poor spotty boy in the Scooby would be paying the local teenage tramp to do the same.

If you do a gravel rally stage in a road going Impreza, you'll need a few bits replacing I bet!

I think that certain people are getting a bit confused with this thread - i for one minute am not saying that a Scoob is a better car, Hell if someone gave me a choice it would be a 997S on the drive everytime.
All i'm saying is a lightly modded Subaru punches far above its weight and would certainly give a 997S a run for its money (up to a certain speed of course)
With regards to track work i'd stick my neck out and say a well sorted Spec C would give any 911 a hard time

Real Life experience:
I did a Don Palmer course at a very damp Bruntingthorpe in January this year. There was a fairly new 4s there.
We passengered in each others cars, and came to the same conclusion.
On the handling course there was not a lot in it, even with my T25 suspension and nearly 400bhp. I was quicker in accelleration, about the same (maybe slightly quicker) around the cones, but boy - could he outdo me on braking.
On balance I had the edge in a powerful modified Scoobie (With DS2500's). But not by much. Even with Don driving both cars (He was genuinely impressed by the 4s).
However,
I dont really expect to race one flat out through a 90 degree contraflow system on a private road every day.
Also, £60k vs £16K

Type R 280bhp & 1240kg
996 C4S 320bhp & 1470kg
I doubt there would be much in it tbh ...& I know if I had one i'd be very wary of throwing £40K+ through a hedge backwards!!

Banny, good vid
though even when hes meant to sound enthusiastic about the sound the C4S makes, he still looks strict ![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
