Sombody got into the lift with me with their bike this morning - Trek Madone 5.5 like this :drool:
Serious question : I'm happy as larry off-road but I'm really keen to do some road cycling again. The thing is, it's been the best part of 15 years since I cycled much on the road and the roads seem so much busier these days. What's the best way to approach getting back on the road?

That Trek Madone is one lovely piece of kit, very nice.....
It's more the condition of the roads that bothers me, the amount of potholes, patched up tarmac and general overall state just batters my road bike wheels..
Get out there on a Sunday morning, best chance of the roads being quite...

Get a hint of road speeds on our other new bike, the Specialized Globe IG8.
Miles away from a racing bike but it's got narrow near slick tyres and really does hammer along the road when pushed.
Like the look of proper road bikes but I'd never want to own one.

I've got a stumpjumper compr FSR which was an insurance claim. I really wish I'd gone for a hard tail. I cant get to grips with the suspension side of things - it just seems to sap power for me and I dont do really hardcore downhill or anything.
Truth be told I feel a right prat riding round on it. Anyone fancy doing a swap of any description? I really would like a hard tail stumpjumper.
Worth a try, I keep meaning to try and sell it but the second hand value of these things doesnt seem to hold up very well.

how old is it, the newer ones have a lock out on the shock (and the Pro -pedal setting which I use to reduce bobbing)
mind you, I nearly sold mine and bought a HT Spec, but then went for a blast round Dalby. My skills aren't good enough to clock 35+ downhill on a HT.
Anyone on here not seem my thread RE a trip to the Lakes? Its on Scooby General bizarly

The HT has all the suspension I need in the forks - hell of a nice frame too. Get one if you can!

I have an old Diamondback Topanga, similar era, it lives in Wales cos I cant be arsed with strapping bikes to cars, its mint and I cant bear to let it go.
Also have a Claud Butler road bike, nothing fancy but feels so fast and easy after riding my mtb on the road, which is a well abused 2003 Carrera Kraken Halfords special with some upgraded forks and Hope mono Minis to replace the truly appalling Tektro cable disks.
Really for most of what I do I need a hybrid, I cycle for a few miles on road and then do a bit of light off roading, the racer cant obviously go off road and the mtb is a heavy pig of a thing on road, any suggestions ?
Also, spare a thought for kids whose parents get them an 80 quid full 'suspension' mountain bike, my dad found one and gave it me for my eldest, just needed a puncture repairing, **** me its heavy, I think these sh1tty contraptions are why kids dont do so much cycling anymore, its horrid, my old Raleigh Arena back in 1982 converted so much more of the crisps, pop and Strawberry bon bon energy into forward motion.

lol. One of the guys at work turned up at a trip to Laggan Wolftrax on an £80 ToysRus effort. After 5 hours riding there were quite a few bits falling off it!

Companies making cheapo and nasty full suspension rigs should be fined.
Got some mileage on the Stumpy now and loving it - bit of a slip on the pedals (I stuck DMR V8s on - hate SPDs) means a nice gouge in my shin!
