Back to wasps, my apprentice (years ago) had a hellish fear of wasps, I used to tease him, calling him a big Jessey etc, until he told me why he was scared of them..

Apparently when he was a kid, himself and friends were playing footy in the school grounds, anyway ball ends up on school roof, so he climbs up to get it, as he's running to fetch the ball he sees what he thinks is a big lump/bubble of tar, which he jumps on.. it turned out to be a wasp hive (not the best thing to jump on wearing shorts and t shirt) he got stung something like 120 times and actually had a line of 9 stings where the same wasp had kept stinging him repeatedly, the doc said they could have actually killed him

I have no reason to disbelieve the guy as he wasn't a bullsh!tter and his fear of the wee buggers was immense, he even carried fly spray in his tool box during the summer lol.

I've only been stung once, right in the instep of my foot whilst walking barefoot over grass in Spain, twas pretty sore, but I slapped the wee jagged arsed swine to death with a flip flop

Not just me then who hates the gits and a few other phobias out there too!

I wont try hypnotherapy because I dont like the idea of being under and out of control wile someone fixes/f@cks with my immense brain
It is also because Sonic might slip the guy an extra fiver to brain wash me into coming back to the Micklehead meets

It works well in my house though because I am terrified of wasps while Mrs Abdabz (to be) is terrified of spiders so we evict unwanted visitors for each other

We had a mortar bee issue in April this year on our back walls - they move like wasps and until I realised what they were I couldnt even take things out to the bin/hang out washing etc Once I knew they were bees and not wasps I was out there trying to hug them Weird!

Surprised no one has mentioned (unless I missed it) wasps flying in through car windows when driving. I think my daughter would just drive off the road.

But please don't kill bees - they're nice little fellas and only sting if cornered. Wasps sting for the hell of it

Playing in a small scale open air festival a few weeks ago ..... T in the Car Park...lol raised over £6k for the local Bridges charity anyway in the middle of our set this wasp is buzzing around and round my mic for 2 full songs (apparently they are drawn to Co2 hence why alot of people get stung on and around the lips)

A real study of concentration if ever there was one, to ignore wasp, and remember words and chords

Im pretty sure Bees have doubled in size over the last few years, dont think I have seen a little bee in quite some time

Abdabz I know deep down you really do want to come back to the Micklehead, at least for one more pint, it might not be when its the Julian Meet, but thats a different story

LOL.. now that you mention it several years ago I very nearly did come a cropper in the car, due to to a wasp deciding it would hitch a ride. Fortunately I was in standing traffic on some motorway in Scotland. However I rolled back a fair few feet after I noticed it. Only just stopped in time before I hit the guy behind me. Mind you he was pissing himself laughing despite nearly hitting him.. I guess he just saw me having a wild fit, and flailing my arms around like something demented!

Totally agree about the bees!!

Yeah, bees are lovely. If you see one that's crawling along, exhausted, give it some honey and he'll soon recover and fly off....warms yer cockles.

I have a rational fear of wasps. Nothing irrational about it IMO. I also provide people with a comedy moment when I scream like a girl and thrash my arms like a lunatic. When they are inside, they have to be killed before I can do anything else.

Rather a coincidence that a chap from Bookclub dropped off a load of goodies today at the office for us to order if wanted. Included is a small tennis racket like fly zapper which uses batteries to fry the fly/wasp. I've ordered 2. Can't wait to use it on a wasp or ten.

AFAIK, wasps are one of the few creatures that contribute nothing to nature.

Not too keen on bees, but can tolerate them even landing on me.

I rather dislike earwigs as well, but they don't fly around.

I can handle spiders, snakes, slugs, rabbits and various other unpleasant creatures no problem.

Oooh..oooh....we've got one of those zappers! You can literally get the wasps smoking! But they're buggers to kill off

I had to smile at your title, looked like you meant you were upset by irrational wasps! I do understand what you feel though, they make me feel uneasy when they come buzzing around and if you manage to swat one he just comes back for more. So they do act in an irrational manner anyway.

Hard to know what to do about it except stay away from the sorts of things they like to eat or whatever.

Apparently, the thing that attracts wasps the most, is tuna. Weird, because in nature they would rarely meet...
