Listen, I love driving my car fast, I wouldn't have if I didn't, but racing is just crazy, and should be challenged by every responsible person on here.

If people weren't slightly embarrased by what they are typing then they wouldn't use terms like 'I had a play', or 'an encounter', they'd call it what it is.

People just don't understand that all reason goes out the window when people race, a persons judgement it completed bypassed by the 'need to win'.
Also you may well be racing in a responsible manner (if thats possible), but how do you know what the wally you are racing is going to do? If he has a crash, or hits someone or something, then YOU are also responsible and will have the book thrown at you.
you sound like a labour MP

Use the old grey matter and factor in lack of weight, weight distribution and good grip from pretty big tyres compared to the size of the car and the low c of g . We aren't talking about some lard bottomed rwd beemer.

Last edited by Mr Footlong; 23 July 2007 at 01:58 PM. Reason: distribution not displacement......

Only a problem with crap drivers;

A good driver won't drive on the limits in the wet on a public road

rwd vauxhall, better in the wet than an 4wd-impreza hmmm if you say so driving skill is irrelevant, cos I would compare both with the same skill of driver.

As much as I would like to argue with you, you obviously have vastly more experience than I with decent RWD cars than I do and therefore must be right..........

Sarcasm?

I wasn't saying that it would be better but a well balanced light and grippy rwd car does pretty damn well for itself in the wet. Shockingly our Imprezas aren't the only cars capable of this.............

Only better if you can't control a RWD car.

Same with FWD too.

well until someone can show me a vauxhall out performing an impreza in the pouring rain then we shall agree to disagree

i suppose next this magical vxr will be outdoing a 4wd range rover over mud due to the sheer brilliance of the drift maniac driver ok little *iss take i know, I just dont believe a rwd vxr will keep up with an impreza in wet conditions all things be equal e.g driver.

I wish it were that easy

It has to be an approved VX220 (or Monaro in my case) specialist (if you want warantee work, obviously under new EU regs ANY garage can service it without penalty...even a Subaru garage...if you wanted to that is ).

Still, getting charged £25 for 7litres of Helix Ultra is one of the best deals I've ever had on a main dealer service ..... (even when the car only needed 6 litres )

just to add my experience with the vx220 Turbo.
When they were first released I was lucky enough to attend a track day at the Bedford Autodrome with the guys from the Jonothan Palmer Racing School.

I don't have much experience on track but that is about as fast as I would like to go.
The guy from the race school spent most of his time telling me to accelerate harder and to brake later into corners.
We all kid ourselves we can drive ok & after a while I thought I was doing quite well for an amatuer then the instuctor took a turn in the drivers seat with me as the passenger.

Well I thought I had a pretty firm grasp of the laws of physics but these guys are on another level. I was pushing the car to what I thought were its limits but I was nowhere near,as I found out. That's about as fast as I have been in a car and it was fantastic once you realise the guy is not a homicidal maniac & trying to kill you by scaring you to death.

So the vx220 turbo IS a fast car!!
But as always the real defining factor is the driver.

Cool

Unlike most of the opinionators ( ) I actually owned a VX220 turbo three years back (sold my STi Type UK PPP for it). Great little fun car. Oh, and I also did the Vauxhall VX day at Bedford (twice) and posted a best lap of under 1.22 in one of Mr Palmer's knackered old cars. Not a slow car!

People die from doing both But some people are responsible for their actions and some just blame anyone and anything

I drive an 03 sti with a H & S 2.5 inch exhaust, Walbro fuel pump, Bilstien springs, ecu tek remap White line anti roll with linkage and using 345 BHP and 340 lb torque.
Should this guy have an edge or am I a 47 year old past it slow git of a driver?
I own a MY05 VXR220. It has a mild remap, and is putting aout 235bhp (std out of the factory is 220bhp, and the VX Turbo is 200bhp).

At 930KG's that's a PWR of 252bhp/tonne.
I think a MY03 STi weighs about what (sorry don't know the exact) but at a guess, 1395KG's? That gives a PWR of 248bhp/tonne.

So no, it's not you
The VX is a great little car. I am very pleased with it. Just to give you a benchmark in terms of how quick it is on the track, I previously owned a track prepped Evo VII. It had a full cage, AP's, coilovers and was putting out over 340bhp. Around Cadwell I was lapping at about 1:45 secs.

In the VXR I can lap the same circuit in the 1:41 bracket.
As a reference point, in the Evo Magazine "Road and Track Car of the Year 2007" feature, I seem to remember the Impreza RB320 lapping at mid 1:44 as it's best time. But really you shouldn't compare them as they are so different, especially from a driver's standpoint; I can't drive the VX in the same way I could previously drive the Evo. Hope this helps

9 posts in 2 years - what, don't you like Scoobynet ?!

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great wee car (even if I'm not entirely clear on the engine/bhp/weight of the Elise/Exige/VX220 etc).

Newage Sti is almost 100kg more than you state, BTW.

Knew you wouldn't stay away from Impreza's for ever Hi Dave. That GB270 does look pretty good - could be a bit of a classic, based on the looks of the new car!

If you expect others to agree with your comment then you are wrong.
The vast majority on hear, wether you like it or not, have done or will "race" at some point, these cars are made to go fast and you really need a wake up call if you think anything diffrent.
Personally , yes, I have raced against other cars in situations, conditions, places that I feel were suitable and I am not embarassed whatsoever. I just wish more would take their chances against me.

Hi Chris

I wasn't intending to go for another Impreza, but saw the press release blurb in our local paper and decided there and then to go for the wagon

Just had to persuade the missus My sales pitch was so long she lost the will to live half way through Didn't quite go to Powerpoint and OHP but not far off lol.

I might just venture back on track at some point with this one.........
