i'd be interested to hear why you think getting the power wont be a problem?

If this is the car I think it is then they may well get the power, GT42R built 2.5 twin plenum intake etc.
It will not make a nice (or even quick) A/B road car though, as previously mentioned between 400 and 500 is ideal it terms of driveability, quick response, reliability etc.

Or: Some mechanical sympathy! Doesn't matter what gearbox you fit, if you don't look after it, the cogs will want to do a runner!

I'm sure a PPG box will be fine.

Whats your budget for the whole car?

I personally can't see why you'd need 700, as I believe that 500 is more than enough, surely with the extra torque, you'll have MAJOR traction issues??

I wish you well and suggest that you go with the PPG and keep your fingers crossed.

I think that you'll find that press release is 2 years out of date. Most of the top performers have built new cars in the last 2 years................

Above 500 hp in a road car is not at all praactical and will need constant maintenance and attention. Somewhere just below in a 2.5 is absolute optimum for a good nice to drive road car. IN MY OPINION.

Just to clarify

April 2006 broke 2nd gear of a Par 1/2 PPG 3/4 Synchro setup at 450bhp
May 2006 broke 2nd gear of a PPG 1/2/3/4 synchro setup at 560bhp
July 2006 broke 2nd gear of a Modena 1/2/3/4/5 dog box at 560bhp
Car put to bed till December 2006, when PPG dog box used.
April 2007 had to modify the interlocker of PPG dog box to stop me selecting 1st so easily, after i destroyed my engine at Donnington selecting 1st from limiter in 2nd.
May 2007 broke 3rd and 4th clean in half on PPG dog box at Scooby Shoot Out running 560bhp
July 2007 broke 1st gear of PPG Dog box, when somehow it selected 1st gear as i selected 5th at 160mph. Approx 620bhp. Resulting in destroyed engine, clucth and box!
Car put to bed!

All in all a pretty bad run of luck, which i seem to have with my own car.

Contrast that with the following fact, that for more than 2 years, and probably 100+ drag launches, several hard track sessions, i have not broken a single thing on the Lateral car's gearbox, which is PPG synchro, and that has been running 600+ for at least 18 months, plus a 50 shot of nitrous on top!

That, no one can understand, other than bad luck!

What i will do next, i do not know!

5 speed dog kit in 6 speed case. Suitable ratios (ie not just group N) available soon from us. 5 speed based options are not bulletproof at this level, and become a consumable if you lean on them.

If it's a drag only car, then go modified auto.

I know a guy who has 750bhp Supra with lots of trick bits. The engine isnt that much of a problem, neither is the gear box really. Its the Diff's that get smashed to bits. On the 6th already this year. It eats tires too.
Dont expect to do any mileage with a car that highly tuned.

Would love a ride in it though. Good luck to you! God Speed, oh and buy a STRONG roll cage just incase...

I think the problem is the application.
On a track car, you can still go very fast, but be sympathetic towards the gearbox. In drag racing, if you don't smash the hell out of the box, you don't get a good time, end of.

I know that doesn't really help anyones situation, but it's worth bearing in mind when speccing the build.
If I dragged my scooby, i'd expect a few fluffed changes per season which will inevitably lead to a broken gearbox.

We managed to strip teeth off the transfer gears on track. Once you're past 600hp I think you need a very good gearbox regardless of what you're doing. I seem to be relatively sypathetic and have only ever had one problem on a decent gearkit (not PPG i might add) but have broken 3 or 4 sets of transfer gears now.
