The people that did it were obviously scum. Endemic in many towns in the UK.
Here's a link to the story in the press. Here's hoping for some sort of recovery and justice being done in this case.

Thanks again guys. No change this morning.
Just to make things a little clearer(sorry i was upset last night) the young girl involved was not Pauls daughter, it was the daughter of his friend, and Paul did the gentlemanly thing after she stormed out of the club(knowing it was dangerous for her to be on her own late at night in a busy town) and offered to make sure she got home safe. This was the good deed i meant. Sorry for any confusion.
Steph
P.s Prince Popeye..get a life while you still can. Paul had just started his dream job as a prison officer, and now he may never work again. In fact he may not live at all. His 2 children are shattered, his 11 yo daughter cant stop crying and his 9yo son just sits like a statue, and wont speak. And my Aunt, well, she hasnt left his bedside. I hope something like this never happens to a member of your family. I shared the story because its yet another example of sh**ty society we live in, and to remind people that not everyone is as caring of others as Paul is. Go ahead, have your dig, i hope your proud of yourself
Infractme - thanks for the link, i was waiting for it to appear in the news

Then why not construct your first post a little better rather than attacking me for what i put. And calling me a c*nt makes one wonder the mentality of you lot on here. I wasn't having a dig at you just wondering why someone would post stuff like this on the internet when its more of a personal thing for the families involved. only my view but slag me off all the same if its makes you feel better
You don't think that given the posters current situation......
a) it's not the best times to enquire about the motivation and reasoning behind the post, which seems pretty obvious to me anyway....?
b) your replies (both of them) come across a tad insensitive and are likely to be quite upsetting to an already very genuinely upset person...?
Very tactful....i find when i'm dug in and i've said something stupid or insensitive it's best to just shut my mouth and fade quietly into the background....

Steph, that's a shocking story. I hope your uncle makes a full recovery.
Prince Popeye, the word you're looking for is sorry. You're next post should contain it.

price popeye isnt getting any off hi blow up olive oyl thats why.
steff, thanks for the update, made it a bit clearer for me too. it doesnt matter whether he was the uncle, father, a friend, or the grandnational towards the lass, he was doing the gentlemanly thing, and i for one, commend him for it... a very gentlemanly and selfless thing to do, considering the outcome that has affected all his family and friends.

I think prince popeye should leave this thread well alone from now on IMO
Steph, Steve told me about this last night
How are you bearing up? Do you still have Steve's number? We're here if you need us for anything...
Sorry to hear there was no change this morning, fingers crossed the afternoon will bring some better news!
What you and the rest of the family are going through now I cannot even begin to imagine, it certainly brought a tear to my eye It really is such an awful thing to have happened and I hope he makes a good and full recovery soon!
Thinking of you and family XX

I am so sorry to see your story Steph. It is terrible that such a thing can happen to a good bloke who was only trying to do some good at the time. It is very hard to undersatnd what drives young thugs like that, Corradoboy put up an excellent theory about this sort of thing on another post.
I hope he recovers fully, it would be awful if he will be affected for the rest of his life.
Like so many others I was absolutely disgusted at the post by Prince Popeye. I don't know what he is trying to prove, maybe he is trying to show us what a big man he is instead of actually a thoroughly insensitive and selfish person with no personality to speak of!

Just a quick update.
His condition is worsening. His whole body is swelling, and the pressure is building on his brain faster than they can relieve it. He is going for another scan now, and if the pressure continues to build then they will have to operate later today, which they really dont want to do as its so dangerous. He's still unable to breathe for himself.
Keep praying please?

You would have been better just saying sorry, rather than saying its been taken "in the wrong way" your post was pointless and heartless and not in the spirit of the SN community. There are times and places for this type of post and this clearly was neither. I suggest that you just stop posting on this thread altogether.
