Shocking story

Unfortunately stories like this are all too common nowadays.........the times we live in and all that.
As has been said by just about everyone........I too hope your uncle pulls through this terrible event. Fingers are crossed for all concerned.
Let's hope that the guilty party/parties get what should be coming to them......unlikely, given the way law now favours the criminal in far too many cases.
I too will be facing jail if anything like this happens to my little lad as he grows up!! I WILL have my revenge.

Steff, sorry to hear this. I hope he makes a full recovery.
I write the following to let you know how good the doctors/nurses are nowadays with helping people in this situation.
A friend of mine suffered similar injuries. He then had several strokes whilst in hospital. The out look wasn't good. It took a few days before he came round. When he did, he couldn't move the left side of body at all.
He spent the best part of a month in hospital, then the following 2 months as an out patient. But during this time he went from strength to strength. He did struggle with most things, and suffered mood swings. We all was concerned it would be permanent. It must have been terrible for his family.
I can't say enough for the people that looked after him. They did everything necessary.
Now, 7-8 months later, you wouldn't know it happened. Yes he has a bloody great scar (hidden by hair), but other than that he's as he was before it happened.
Its easy to lose faith in the abilities of the NHS due to what you read in the papers, but don't. They will do the best for him. Of that I'm sure.
All the best.

Another example of mindless behaviour that we are seeing far too often nowadays. Hope the injured party make a full and speedy recovery.
Hope the dirty scumbag(s) who did it go to jail for a long time.

Steph, that is an absolutely shocking post to read.
I cannot begin to imagine the distress you are all going through as a family.
A candle has been lit and a little prayer has gone out from this corner of Berkshire.

Paul was taken to theatre at 6am this morning and is still there. They cant release the pressure on his brain with drugs, its just not working, so they are having to take some of his skull away to relieve it. He's very critical and its still touch and go, but they're doing all they can, so there's hope.

I can't believe the alleged perpetrator has been bailed.
Must point out though, Steff, that although you may KNOW he's done it at this point he is still innocent in the eyes of the law. However in light of how serious this crime is I think he should be locked up to protect the public.

So he'd been charged with GBH. Just looked up the max possible sentence for GBH and from what I can see it's life. I'll be interested in seeing what this scum actually gets. I'm guessing < 6 years.
Fingers crossed for your uncle's full recovery Steph.

Hello
I am so sorry to read what has happened to your uncle. I hope he makes the best possible recovery and will defo pray for him.
I hope the low life scumbags get what's coming to them. Prison will be far far too good for them.

I received a rather unpleasant message from Prince Popeye because of the way I complained about his original post on this thread in which he finds it necessary to accuse me of lying about my previous occupation. He has not got the guts to accept a reply since he refuses unsurprisingly to take any private mail so I have no option but to write a post to him here.
PP.
Your reply is the sort of thing I could expect in a way since you must realise from the other posts made to you that you made a big error in making those unpleasant and selfish comments to a girl who was very upset at the terrible injuries suffered by a close relative and was looking for some backup and help from the rest of us on SN.
You are even incapable of admitting that error and apologising unreservedly to Steffiraf, had you been man enough to do so you might even have been applauded for it!
Since you have to resort to childish insults and insinuations about my previous occupation it is pretty obvious that you are unable to find any real argument to lay against me. I have been lucky with the experiences I have had in life and it does you no good to accuse me of being a liar about it.
You would do better perhap's to "retire hurt" since you will only make things worse for yourself by acting like a spoilt child!

Shocking news, Steff. So much violence in this society, I don't know where this world is going. Hope Paul pulls through, and comes around just the way he was. Wishing him all good luck.............

Hope the removal of part of the skull relieves the pressure enough for him to have a better chance of recovery Steph
Still keeping everything crossed here for you and hoping for the best...
GBH doesn't seem enough of a charge TBH Not only that, the prisons are a joke now, inmates (sorry - clients ) get it easy and apart from not being able to go out, doesn't seem too much like a punishment in my eyes
I really do hope he goes down for quite some time though and that in the meantime, right or wrong, that he gets his come uppance too

Seems to me though that if you beat someone like that it's probably reasonable to assume you were attempting to kill them.

I don't think it has anything to do with pre-meditation more intent. I'd imagine the reason he is being charged with GBH is that the CPS doesn't think it will be possible to prove an intent to kill.

If witnesses or CCTV show that the assailant continued in his attack after the victim ceased to become any form of threat then IMHO it should be murder, although I believe it would be diluted to manslaughter due to perceived temporary insanity brought on by rage. It is fair to assume that the assailant did not set out to kill, but once in the grips of adrenaline fuelled rage he may have lost the judgement on when to cease the attack.
Let's hope it does not come to this.

Latest update is that he's come back from surgery, so that's something at least.
They have removed part of his skull to release the pressure, however...whilst they were operating, they found that some of his brain cells were completely dead, so they removed them.
This is going to have an effect on him, should he recover. They cant say at the moment in what way, but they're saying it could affect his personality(meaning behaviour likely to be the opposite of what he usually is/was(?) ie if he was easy going(he was), he could become moody and agressive) or he will have memory loss. To what extent, we wont know until he comes round. He is still in a coma, and on life support, and still very much on the critical list.
