thinking about what notorious just said above... if the worst did happen (and god forbid it wont), would it be an idea to maybe set up a fund for either the famailies involved in this disgusting attack, or a fund to maybe help this sort of thing not happen again.
apologies if it sounds really far fetched, just a thought that could ovbioculy be expanded on.
hope you and your family are coping steff.

I agree with C-o-B,
Donna & Me know Steph personally, have done for quite a few years, we got Scooby from Steph too
Like I have said before, just wish there was something we could do, I know there isn't, but perhaps some kind of fund might be something

You're all very kind, but there's nothing any of us can do. Its up to him now. I've been over there today, and from what i can gather, there is very little hope unless a miracle happens. They are saying that his only chance is to remove more of the brain, but if they do that he will be 'a cabbage' for the rest of his life. I get the distinct impression that Pauline is going to have to make a decision in the next few days, on whether or not to switch off the machines. It sounds awful, but I hope that Paul makes that decision for her. Her daughter said to her today 'promise me daddy will live?' How the hell do you reply to that?

I am so sorry steffiraf. I've not commented before as I have not really known what to say. If it really is going to end, then you are right, lets hope for the easiest ending. My candle still flickers for the miracle.
Whatever happens, many people's lives will be ruined through this. All because someone got too angry to control themselves.

its thing like this that make me thankful for what i have in life. i havent masses of money, or a flash new car, but i have my health, and a home to live in.
i really really hope that the responsible party for this "act" on him rot in hell.
what gives then the right to do this sort of thing.

Rather than stand up and tell them what they are and deal with it, they
prefer to spin, pontificate, and hide behind legislation and useless policy's.

Sorry - only just read this thread - what a shocking thing to happen
Have lit a candle and hoping for that miracle to occur.
Please pass on my thoughts and best wishes to your bothers family.

I accept that I don't know any of you involved in this truly terrible story but my heart goes out to you anyway.

Hi. Again I don't know you and we'll probably never meet but this has hit a nerve with me as well. I live over in Spain and along with other expats here, am desparately sorry for what you are having to go through. The very fact that so many people, strangers, on here are commenting and offering support hopefully offers some consolation that not everybody is scum, and that good does actually outnumber bad. There's many of us here with our fingers crossed and many a candle will be lit tonight for sure.

I've only just noticed this thread. I'd heard of the incident on the local radio news, so it seems kind of strange to read of it affecting someone on here, especially being so local. I live just a few miles from Paul (though don't know him) and coincidently only work a couple of miles from where he works too. Something like this makes me feel ashamed to admit to being from this area.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
John.

Things not good today. This afternoon the pressure on his brain rose again and his body temperature shot up. He's packed in ice at the moment to try and stabilise him again. This is the worst he's been yet.
To give you some idea of the problems with his brain - normal brain pressure is between 7 and 10(whatever the scale is). Paul's pressure was at 27 yesterday but is currently at 40 Combined with the pneumonia and the temperature its a very dangerous situation.
P.s Matchmaker, i dont mind at all. Thanks everyone for your continuing support, you've been a great source of comfort. When this is all over, I will show Pauline this thread, she'll be as choked as me i'm sure, but amazed as i am by the generosity and sympathy of people who are mostly strangers. Once again, thank you
