Quick update before work - Paul's taken a step back again . The pneumonia is back with a vengeance and his temperature is rising. Dont think the brain pressure is affected at the moment, but his lungs are filling rapidly again. Don't know any more than that, will try and update you tomorrow

Just read both your updates,I was so pleased at the first one but knocked down again by the second one. We can only hope it starts to really get better and maintains the progress too.

Thanks everyone for the candles, keep it up, cos its obviously working!
Some good news for a change. Yesterday, Paul had a tracheotomy(sp?) to help his breathing and syphon off the crap in his lungs. Apart from the whistling noise he's now making, things are definately improving.
They are still reducing the coma drugs slowly, and he moved his legs a little yesterday. He's much more stable, so much so, they are thinking of moving him to the high dependancy ward.
The only worry at the moment is the hospital have taken him off his antibiotics as they are frightened that he may catch MRSA. How, i dont know, but apparently the ab's increase the likelyhood? Anyway, what do i know about it. They're the experts
But, there IS definate improvement, and he's breathing for himself for longer and longer now. Still cant do it properly yet, as he breathes way too fast and his muscles having done nothing for 2 and a half weeks have become very weak. But he's trying, thats the main thing
Long may it continue

If it helps I know of two people who contracted MRSA whilst in hospitals. One was my niece who contracted it from birth. Despite all the panic she is MRSA positive even 15 months down the line and is perfectly happy and healthy.
The other was a work colleague of mine who a rare blood disorder and ended up in hospital due to his body basically giving up on him. He went through numerous opertions one of which gave him a 10% chance of survival. To cut a long story short he was in hospital for 12 months and contracted MRSA. Despite all the problems he was having he pulled through this and the doctors were fantastic. Although sometimes it may seem things are not going according to plan they always do their best.
I know it's easy to say but please try not to worry too much, certainly dont let the MRSA worry you too much. I'm sure that he will be fine, it certainly sounds like hes a fighter. With the added part of Scoobynet 100% behind him I am sure it will be ok.
Anyway, as you are fully aware by now there are a lot of people here who are thinking of you and your family. Keep positive. Thinkgs are sounding hopeful.

Steph, that's brilliant news!! About time there was some positive progress, fingers crossed this is the start of his recovery, he's fighting, so he's not ready to give up!!
Hope he continues to fight and get through this!
I need to remember when the candles run out so I can keep lighting new ones hehe I really hope it is helping somehow.

Yep, deffo good news which I am going to celebrate with a few beers on the beach in a moment, but only after lighting up the candle again! They're lot's of people thinking about your uncle so if PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) exists and assists, he'll keep fighting!

lets hope the good news keeps on coming.
i would like to think hes pulling through the worst of it now.
it would be nice to think also, that in months to come, when the guys recovered, he''ll be frequenting this forum, as a happy established member... with a subaru
chin up steph, still in my thoughts.

My wife and I will be praying that he makes as full a recovery as possible. I am really happy for you guys to see that he is getting better...be patient hopefully he will get better and better. Do not lose hope and make sure all the nurses and staff that come near him especially visitors, children etc. use the hand disinfectants as MRSA is bad news and usually spread due to poor hygiene.
As a Muslim we believe that with every 'hardship' there are two 'eases' (or reliefs) so maybe you are due some relief?
All the best to, him, you and the family.
Hope you have some real good news for us soon.

That is wonderful news Steph. Those prayers must be doing some good after all as well as the fact that he must be a very strong chap.
There will be no let up here of the hopes and best wishes for him and for you too.

Sorry guys, things been a bit hectic for me recently.
Paul has stabilised now, and been moved to the High Dependancy ward. He has been taken of the sedatives completely, but is still very sleepy. He appears to know you are there, but isnt really responding. He still needs the ventilator to breathe, but other than that there is very little improvement really. He seems vegatative at the moment(if thats the right word to use).
Bit of a crap update sorry
