The only person I've ever met called Wayne is the guy who comes round and empties our septic tank.

The ones that irritate me are the made-up ones. Like the cobbled together guff that Jordan has just called her baby. "We like it" they say "and we don't what other people think". Fine, but how does the child fit it? It's not a pet ffs.

No I don't care to. It's personal information that only the foolhardy would share over the net.
However what I can assure you is that I don't have a made up name, a chav name or one from a celebrity. My first name is from the Holy Book if that's any use...............

we called out little girl Holly, which was on our list, as she arrived eary, just before Christmas. Trouble is, if you look the meaning up, it says something like: British. Green tree. Dead interesting that one.
It's more common than I thought, but gets a lot of good comments

Problem with 'Maisie' is the connection with chavs and the opportunity for them to spell it maysie, masie, masy, mazy, masieye, mazieyeye etc etc. Not to mention it's a contraction which is another naming faux pas.
Likewise the name 'Poppy' as used by everyone's favourite fat tongued open mouthed mockney wackner chef.

No offence intended, but I really hate parents who think it's cool to give their kids topical names if they're born near christmas

Besides, we were rather more concerned that she was close to dying than to wonder if our choice of name was 'cool'

There's more than the name 'Jesus' in the Holy Book. The picture of the 'Very hungry Caterpillar' comes from another type of 'holey' book.

We called our sons Andrew and Grant - they seem happy with them.
I was going to be named after my dad until he put his foot down and said NO!
His name was not unusual when he was born (1913), but I'd hate to have it today. I ended up called Alan. Instead of....................

I wonder if, perhaps, you may not consider your name chav like but others may do so and you are simply not wishing to be ridiculed. Seems you don't mind passing judgement on others, but do not wish to be judged yourself.
As for your name, well, the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" was written and illustrated by Eric Carle, so perhaps your name is Eric or Carl. I can't see it being caterpillar, ice cream, salami, watermelon, lollipop, butterfly, or a day of the week.
As for Holy book, depends what relegion you are. Could be Peter, Paul, Saul, Luke, Mark, Matthew, John, Judas, Noah, Joseph, and many others, if you're going from the Bible that is.

Slating christian names?
Oh dear!
As for the chav paranoia - aren't some people taking it a bit far?!
I'd rather be a happy, healthy chav with a good family and friends, than some stressed out, overweight middle class bore who's life revolves around house prices, moaning about immigrants and which 95" plasma TV to buy.
Oh dear!

Well clearly it would be an error to call your kid "Jordan" or similar but I hardly think "Maisie" and "Poppy" are chav names.
But even if they are, so what?!
Success doesn't care what your name is, it cares what you do in life.
Branding certain names as "Chav" is not far off judging all immigrants as the same and arguing that life was so much better under Thatcher.

So you're perfectly happy to cast dispersions on others' names. Isn't that a tad hypocritical. As for it being personal information and foolhardy to share it, I think that is a little silly, it's only your first name after all, it's not as if you can be tracked down by it, unless someone really has far too much time on their hands to do so. And if you worry about that then you really should get out a little more.
I wonder if, perhaps, you may not consider your name chav like but others may do so and you are simply not wishing to be ridiculed. Seems you don't mind passing judgement on others, but do not wish to be judged yourself.

I'm not casting aspersions on other people's names. I merely read an article that agreed with my own viewpoint and posted it. It followed on from a post I made some time ago bemoaning some people I know who've given their children 'burberry' names and probably damned them to a life of mediocrity as a result.
Sadly there are people on here with too much time on their hands who would and have used information like that to 'get' people they didn't like. Therefore my name remains a matter for me.
There's only one Holy Book and as far as I'm concerned it sure as hell 'aint the christain bible.
The reference to Carle's book was merely another sort of 'holey' book as I explained earlier...........

The point is that it's in a parents power to give their child a name that will be an asset to them, not a stigma. So why not do the best for your beloved offspring?

Please, reconsider
No Matilda, Maisie or Mable is ever going to survive School. And as for Lucas (Electrical) and Stanley (kinfe?/tools?) oh dear....
Yet another reason for not having kids - no need to have to name the little ****ers

Surely it's just as important naming a dog? My Uncle had a black labrador he named after the Dam Busters dog. It used to be great fun (not) calling him back when you took him for a walk. That's policemen for you though I guess........

The name 'Poppy' in particular is one to avoid- chiefly because of the mockney nobber I mentioned earlier. Unless of course you want to be labelled as a lower middle class wannabe with a sad celebrity fixation and your child likewise.

You not only miss my point, you also further slide down my "worth knowing" scale with each post you make.
I know two Poppys - one a public school educated girl of 28 who works in TV and should really be a model, the other a middle aged horse lover who goes out of her way to help others and lets wife ride her thoroughbred for next to nothing.
You are yet another sad cretin who judges people by the most stupid means.
Have you done anything interesting in life?
Are you actually worth knowing?
Is a desperate crawl up the social ladder all that matters to you?
I can guess the answers already.
Edit - oh god, Devildog is exactly the same. Right, I'm calling the child Jordan whatever sex it is.
