"Aitch" is correct in England!
Of course, we could really get things going by asking how you pronounce "scone"?

Oh well, we all learn things throughout life, not just at school.

I don't think anyone learns much at school anymore!

it's right though, 'an ' proceeds a vowel or Haitch. God knows why.

Especially when it's clearly a tent and bears little resemblance to a hotel.
I was taught 'Aitch' at school some time ago, when learning was on the agenda.

LOL - depends which way you think is posh?
Does it rhyme with "gone" or "phone"?
I use the "gone" version, but my other half uses the "phone" pronunciation; therefore, I'm right!

Your right there Les. Can be embarrasing finding out these things so late on..
I think teaching is worse than it was now though.

I also say Tuth instead of tooth. I was brought up in west midlands though so I have an excuse for that one.

No, you're utterly, utterly wrong. The 'H' aspirate is a consonant, so should be preceded by "a", not "an".

The impression given is certainly like that Nick and I feel sorry that it is like that. Very unfair on young people these days.

The 'thick rate' for SN is way over 25% though. Maybe a re-count is necessary?
