To be fair, Cobain always acknowledged their inspiration.

But the Pixies were better.

All goes to show what a rubbish decade it was for music generally.

Of all of them (decades of music that is...) from the start of the pop revolution in the 50's were better than the 80's. By the start of the 90's nobody much cared anymore about 'pop'.

The undeground was going overground...

The Punk revolution of the mid/late seventies showed the 'kids' that music was 'theirs' for the taking, hence some of the kids took it and ran and ran... some tripped at the first hurdle.

So your *really * talking about the Dallas-esque shoulder pads, miami vice pastel shade suits and the dodgy Kevin Keegan hairstyles more than the music ?

No, I'm talking about the likes of Howard Jones, Nick Kershaw, Thompsen Twins, Human League, Depeche Mode.... etc... etc....

Looking back, I reckon it was a 'rum old do'...

Human League and Depeche Mode didn't get my hero-worship because I've always tended towards the alternative. But "Don't you want me" is a deserved "Hall of Fame" track, and D.M have a fanatical following.

Nick, or Howard?? I can't remember...

My experience was that it was a decade dominated by producers more then artists. Tever Horn Stock, Aitkin, and Wassisface, Jam and Lewis, Chris Hughes...
