I got a whole cleaning kit with mine that I havent even opened so not sure whats in it. Im a bit wary of adding oil to it, because of the old MAF issue.
I think its been on for a couple of years (about 5-10,000 miles!!!), I'll try and dig out the receipt to find out. But hopefully i'll get to it at the weekend and take some pics for you.....

This is normal mate... i couldnt hear my dump valve at all for about the first 3000miles on my MY05 STi (although the first 1000 were done below 4k revs... and driven really carefully for running in).
After i gave it a good blast with about 3000 on the clock one day, i switched it off and it wasnt doing it... then the next time i went out (and ever since) its had the sound of the dump valve when i change gear sometimes. Took it to the local Impreza specialist and they said its completely normal...

I have fitted the STi panel filter this week, and the car idles 100RPM lower now when upto temp (exactly 500RPM idle.. as opposed to 600-650 before hand). It also feels a little more refined/smoother, and spools about 500RPM sooner than before. Recommended for £50.00
Also fitted this:
Nice piece of kit... and on its own made things feel a little sharper. (Not suprising though if you take a look inside the standard item you will realise why.. its shockingly bad for smooth airflow)
Here is why:

I've got a MY00 classic and it's always had a little small 'dump valve' sound from when I bought it completely standard. But now the car has got an STi panel filter, ninja sports cat downpipe, and afterburner decat centre section.....it pretty much sounds like an aftermarket dumpvalve now! Especially when ur driving down a narrow street and you give it some lol. Hell of a pptshhhhhh

Looking good Ollie.
Filter didn't look too bad considering it's been in 2 years without a clean !! My standard STi filter had black marks on it after 2.5k miles.
Still undecided about the oil stage though, especially as a specialist told me that they only blow them out.
Did you get much oil off when you dabbed the filter afterwards ?

Thanks, yeah quite clean really, especially as it used to get used daily commuting in London...
Not a huge amount of oil, but then I was quite conservative with it when spraying it on. Definitely wanted to blot it off anyway just incase...these bloomin MAF's!
