Bought both my imprezas private and they were the first ones seen. Both have turned out as expected. Very happy. I'm no mechanic either. Just used some knowledge learnt off here and gut-instinct. (guess it helps they were only 1 year old)
Booked a one-way flight to lOOk at my current car. I was that confident.

First one was a MY98 Mica Green wagon. Was driving a very nice little MX5 at the time and the Mrs "fell" pregnant, so I convnced her that the Scoob was a sensible 5 door family car!!
Saw it, drove it, bought it.
My new one.....saw it on the internet, placed a deposit over the phone and then went to pick it up about three weeks later. I drove it away about ten minutes after first seeing it in the flesh!!

I bought the first one I viewed BUT I had done quite a bit of searching on the net and reading on here to see exactly which model I wanted and in what colour. It was just down to what it drove like.

I did.
Iin 2002 I had a 2.0 Celica GT at standard ~170hp. I looked up a few on autotrader and decided I wanted a low mileage green classic and I had a budget then of 12k.
I found a 99 classic on with a local "sports and prestige specialist" garage in Lymm.
I took it for a spin and the performance absoultely blew me away... It was so unbelievably different to my Celica I asked it it was standard and he told me he believed it was.
So I did the deal that afternoon and picked it up a week later.
When I bought it, the garage owner gave me a folder of receipts, true grip mags etc which the previous owner had left.
It turned out to have eibach springs, and various other things under the bonnet which meant nothing to me when I bought it.
My only regret is that I never had it on a rolling road. From traffic lights it matched an 02 reg M3 and anhilated 330ci's and scared the besjesus out of me and my friends .
When I finally parted company with her in 2005, I bought an 02 WRX which when rolled at 220hp was not even remotely close to the power of my 99
I loved that car - someone got a beaut in May 2005 when they got her - a real sleeper Miss you

My STI Type R was the first Scoob I went to look at, didn't even drive it lol! I had only ever been in 1 Scooby before this and that was as a passenger in a mates car who took me for a spin and got me hooked, I then was on a mission to get one......... and i did
I did meet the seller at Power Engineering though, they checked it over for me and put it on the rollers and gave it a blast
I had it nearly 3 years and never had any probs, was a great car.

1st Scoob: Silver MY99 Turbo 4dr, first one I had ever driven, bought within 30 mins.
2nd Scoob: Reddish Blue MY98 Turbo 5dr, good friends car, not an impulse buy.
3rd Scoob: White MY99 PPP 4dr, was a massive roadtrip to view it (south of Bristol and I'm north of Edinburgh ) and when I turned up it was as mint and low mileage as promised, bought & driven away within 30mins.
4th Scoob: White MY99 Turbo 5dr, saw it advertised on Autotrader at a Commercial Garage, was ridiculously cheap, HPi Clear, Mint Condition (genuinely), only 28k miles, FSSH, White, Totally Standard, under £4000... Deposit over the phone within 5 mins, refundable pending inspection, bought a one way ticket to Stansted, collected by trader, as soon as I saw the car I knew I'd buy it, deal completed within 20 mins.
5th Scoob: Grey 2007 STi Spec-D, wanted one.. searched for one at the reduced offer price but failed and was VERY close to buying a 6 month old ex-management car, then a dealership 40miles away called with a cancelled order for a brand new car. Put a deposit down there and then, never drove a MY07 STi until I collected my own car and actually traded my 4th Scoob in and made money on it?!
Cheers,
Grant

I did, but I did my homework on the different models 1st and travelled from Reading to Wales to have a ganders and test drive.
I went from a CTR to a scoob too, civics are quick but the car I bought was something else

Funny story with the first one I viewed. It was the blue everyone loves and the sounds it made were great.
The fella lived on a farm and had a shed (yes a shed) full of all top bollox cars from Evos to Lancers to Bentleys. He was doing the whole sales man thing, real hard sell and said the car had never had any work at all.
My mate pointed out the roof had been painted and he told us to stop wasting his time and get off his land ! LMAO
****ing nut he was...

Bought 4th car we looked at, drove from Plymouth to Bristol to Tredington to Coventry on to Shrewsbury and back to Coventry, all in one day.
Bought a black blobeye GX Sport (we know it's not a turbo, but it still makes me grin every turn of the key. ) from main dealer. After a lot of research on who had what the Mrs noticed it whilst i was looking at something else.

To those of you who travelled a very long way, or bought a car unseen: how did you know that the seller was honestly describing the condition of the car?
I've been looking for another scooby this week, and although nobody describes their car as a complete dog there are certainly a few out there. (See my thread here - the only honest way to describe the car would be "completely knackered". Another that I looked at on Saturday was much scruffier than the 'few dents' that were disclosed in the ad, and the documentation was suspect).
