Firstly, you've surprised me by saying that you're on £21k! I had to study for four years to become a teacher and the starting salary is less than what you are on now, so don't go into teaching!

Secondly I agree totally with this:

Midway through the first term I changed my degree to an ICT one as I was told that I would ''walk straight into a job paying £32k!'' I got the qualification but no experience and no-one would touch me, hence the reason I went back to Uni to do the P.G.C.E.

Why not look to get a part-time job somewhere and then spend more time working on your drawings? You've a true talent there mate and it would be a shame to waste.

Whatever you decide, just make sure you enjoy it. A job you love on £20k is better than one you hate on £35k

exactly. if i could afford a wage drop for another job, even in the warehouse trade or general factory business, with little stress or hassle, id do that. even if the job had enjoyable stress hassle?!?!? (sounds daft), but was rewarding enough to put a smile on my face (just like the feeling of satisfaction after completing a commision for example) id still do it.

thing is, my current job has none of these. i dont go to work thinking im gonna make a difference. it doesnt satisfy me working with dozens of smelly/arrogant polish workers every night who stare and comment about you right infront off you. the lack of support when things go wrong, or your involved in simple accidents doesnt help either. your presumed guilty until proven (rarely) innocent.

no rewards what so ever. not even a bloody staff discount card for the nisa today/costcutter shops ffs.

when i worked round the corner for home express (deliver for littlewoods catalogue), it was bloody hard graft. but all the lads/lasses on the night sort pulled togather on the hard christmas shifts with stoopid amounts of parcels to sort etc, and some nights for a slogger 13 hour shift, we would clear £200 as we obliterated the bonus scheme. why? teamwork. everything at my current job is centred around self bonuses, with little teamwork ethic. they try drum it into us its a team thing, but you work alone order picking all night, listening to some stupid computerised bitch telling you where to go for 8/12 hours...

its sunny outside now, im gonna forget about my sh*tty job, my jungle of a garden, my failing scooby engine, and chill the f*ck out with my best friends... my pencil and mr paper... i need the money from somewhere right

IT is still a goldmine if you work at it, just like anything.

If you have no/little experience, or still quite young then you aren't going to get the high salaries unless you are really outstanding but that is a fact in any industry. But if you work hard and further yourself then the sky is the limit.

For example I meet people who are 40 and still doing helpdesk or desktop support, they complain about their salary and that the money has gone out of IT, well of course it's gone out of that area, the industry moves on. They should have been putting in the effort to get out of support, into implementation or design. Or move from desktop to the server side, or become a specialist in a certain product etc.
