As for drink driving, I never understand how, for example a sales rep can drink 10 pints of beer, get caught driving home and then NOT lose his/her license because they "need it for their job"
Tough doodoo... They should have thought about that before getting back in the car at the end of the night
I see that form of complacency too often where people feel able to drink more than is legal because they wont be banned ![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)

The great idea of unmarked cars is that the police get to see a drivers natural behaviour.
The 5 seconds that a driver 'puts on the act' for the benefit of a marked car is not a true reflection of the risk that person poses on the road. It's like the eejits who "slam on" for speed cameras then speed up again
.
Now for drink drivers, marked cars are better. A visible police presence on the roads at peak drinky drivey times is an excellent deterrant, but I am a strong believer that too many other misdemeanours are missed and more traffic police in general (but with a fair split in unmarked cars) can only make the roads safer.

I'm not sure about that Abdabz - what next undercover Traffic Wardens in case actually seeing one deters a motorist from parking illegally? Plain clothed school canteen attendants to covertly catch the jam thrower? ![Norty](images/smilies/norty.gif)
I'm of the school of positive re-inforcement. Plenty to catch that way - and I think you underestimate the craftiness of the traffic cop with eyes in the back of his head![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
