I may have a winner.....

Bought in 1986 for £60, I ran it for a year and 12000 miles and sold it for £50.

Obviously as I kept it for a year it needed an MoT - which it passed with only a track rod end and a new sill being required. Total - £12 as I did the work myself.

Dunno, though. You took a big hit on the depreciation at over 16%.

You should have held out for £55.

The black driver's door made it more desirable back in the day.

How did you make that do 12000 miles in a year?

I actually advertised it for £85 reckoning that I'd happily come down to £50 (or whatever any mad sod offered me for it) but if they didn't pay the asking price I would keep the tax disc and cash it in.

The driver's door was actually British Racing Green (therefore worth an extra 7.5 bhp).

As for doing 12K miles in a year, it was actually mechanically pretty good. The body was as rotten as it looks though.

A few of those miles were clocked up in road rallies (I was younger and neither my navigator nor I had much concern for personal safety at the time )

I reckon I'm in with a chance with my ex Wiltshire police Vauxhall Senator 24v track slag. I paid £45 for it and all it has is two front seats and a steering wheel. 245k miles, taxed and tested and soon to be sideways'd to oblivion at RAF Marham. I even use it for my daily commute now and again.
