25-30mph impact. If it were a 50 impact she'd be in your back seat...not much metal in the boot of a classic shape scoob, barring some tin foil
If roof hasn't flexed it is feasibly repairable. But being an old classic the cost to repair is going to outweigh the car's value
Done quite a few classic in this way...most where the driver found their nasty tendancy to swap ends and go back wards into a nearby object (good in the twisties? ). Worst one was a light metallic green UK, two new rear quarters, new boot floor, new boot, inner and outer bumper and rejig the rails - both of which had bent inwards. Car was boarder line write off, and that was only 12 months old.

sorry to hear this killer...
had some **** plumb into the side of me back in april... thread on here about it, although my car was repairable as the cost was something like 50-60% of the cars value so his insurers coughed up and give me compo too for whiplash, no questions asked.

Nasty, always a right pain in the **** when something like that happens. Important thing is you're OK- cars can be replaced. Rest easy on that old cliche.

Funny thing is no one ever asks what the NCAP rating for an Impreza is. No rear protection at all.
Have you seen what is inside the plastic bumper? - Nothing!
I was rear ended at some lights by a Volvo - £2k damage, not a scratch on the Volvo. Makes me wonder if it is clever putting my children in an Impreza.
I'd like to know what Subaru have to say about the cars strength. And how much less expensive they would be to insure is they were more resilient.

Your right, front end is the same...slightest knock can damage the cambelt and pulleys - many a fate for a front-ended scoob where the engine work pushes the cost over the edge.
However, they do crumple well...and the sructure in the cabin seems to deform in such a way that passengers don't get too badly injured. Maybe that's more luck than anything though.
In fairness, as Brun says, its no worse than alot of cars from 1992. Mainstream Fords and Vauxhalls of that era were no better, if not worse (for example the MKV Escort 3door floorpan in a hard front impact had a habit of folding under the front seat...pushing the driver's head out the windscreen).

IF i recall, once the car is written off, the Ins co take effective ownership...
if you take bits off the car before its been assesed, you could find yourself in a spot of bother..

Gutted, but it all seems to be working out fine for you fella.
And best get onto the private plate ASAP, we nearly had a spot of bother with the other halfs plate when she wrote off her car. What you need to do is get a letter from your insurance company stating they have no interest in the plate and take this to your DVLA local office (along with all other paperwork for putting it on retention), where we nearly ran into bother was we left it a bit late and the DVLA said they were going to have to inspect the car since we couldn't produce the tax disc! Thankfully the car was still sitting in recovery companies' yard, but in the end DVLA couldn't be bothered with the inspection and we got the plate put on retention, took a while though!

Always seems faster than it probably was. Even at 30mph if she wasn't wearing a seatbelt she'd have probably landed in your front seat! Did her airbags go off (ooer)?
20- 30 if you are lucky but still, doesn't change the fact she has wrecked your car although it sounds like she might have done you a bit of a favour. You can claim the full asking price from your advert!
