Just thought of a comparison (sure its been used)
The Mk2 escort, iconic, heritage, RWD saloon...
The Mk3.. attitude changing FWD hatch.

Just thought I would drop that in lol

I'm on my 3rd, and they are all ugly as sin. Debating which subaru looks best is a bit like arguing about whether Adolf or Atilla was a nicer bloke.

I read somewhere that due to poor sales in Australia, Subaru have or are trying to redesign the front end....in all honesty I think this car needs something more WRC than OAP in terms of styling.

Subaru can't deny that the Enthusiast owners of Subaru have kept the marque going in this country, by doing what they've done with this one, they're distancing themselves from that market and the slim possibility that maybe some old couple will have one.

What they're forgetting is that older people (generally, my apologies if theres some older enthusiasts on SN) look for completely different things in cars. Subaru may have toned down the styling but its still a flat four turbo with alot of power etc which means low mpg, noisy (to OAPs) etc.

So if the styling is toned down so the enthusiasts don't buy it and its still a typical Impreza underneath so old people won't want it, whos going to buy it?

got that from a comment on you tube.. its very true though.. it wasnt just the special STI's that looked like the rally cars in the past.. my dad got a turbo 2000 estate when i was 13, and kids still stopped and pointed at it!
Stick a decail kit on it and noisey zorst and they will point at anything don't think that is the point to all this the scoob is iconic to kids thanks to Sony/X-Box etc i'm now on my third one ! and it ain't for it's brick like looks and none existant drag efficiency i went from classic to newage and quickly back to a classic and that says it all, the original scoob is involving, raw, a beast of a machine with power just waiting to be released where else could i buy a car that sounds like that for the same money ????? it has a unmistakable sound but in reality it is so dated it's untrue, loads of better looking cars out there these days that will give most scoobs a run for their money and lets face it Subaru don't give a ****e whether the enthusiast likes the look of the new car they want a piece of the market that Vauxhall/Ford have, so given that Subaru have produced something very similar will it win rallies??? that remains to be seen, do i give a ****e?? nah cos i got me a classic and not only kids point at it and it didn't cost me 50+K

Default 2008 Impreza

CGI but that is what I am praying it looks like....

I think the 2008 shape is a total let down unless the STI is as good or better than this!

THAT just looks like a cockroach!

I'm going to give the new one the benefit of the doubt until I actually drive one at the stealers. I didn't buy my classic because I thought it looked great - to be honest the image of all bodykit, spoiler, scoop etc doesn't really appeal, it's all about the grin the first one I tried put on my face when I actually drove it. I'll put up with no end of 'chav' comments, all I care about is the fun factor when you boot it!

The word on the street is this 2008 model is the best scooby ever???? I think thats the one thing that I am still waiting for.... I dont like the look.. it looks like a 307 or something along those lines!

I think if it drives like a beast then that will save it! I think if it drives like it looks they are in big trouble....

its all a matter if the cars looks are acceptable or not. Most people the arguement is that if the car is acceptable, if not great but not bad, to myself and my peers then you would justify the purchase on other things such as performance. If i deem it unacceptable (like this) i wouldnt buy it even if it came with 500bhp, 40mpg and cornered like a rally car.

The blind and slightly deaf Jap designer Ihaji Fookmi Againi, who's claim to fame includes the MY02 headlamps and the 03-05 Bonnet Scoop adamantly said yesterday, "This new Subaru Toaster WILL sell"

LOL

look at the WRX 01, Prodrive restyled the STi 02 with bumper, sills and Spoiler. They turned the "Frog" into a Rally Car (not even god could turn it into a Swan I loved my Old one

1) I'ts going to take more than a Grill to make this car beauty
2) WRC rally car looks bumper, sills and Spoiler etc
3) WRC performance and results

That should get bums on seats to try it from there on it will be about preformance

4) looks aren't everything (as my wife said) but the performance, drive and presence is

IMHO

Most sensible thing said.... people are looking at the standard WRX and comparing to their riced up classics, have you seen what a standard WRX used to look like in 1993. Very plain, boring, ugly all spring to mind. People need to get over their 'precious' classics, after all some are 15 years old, times have moved on.

The MY08 is growing on me

Tony.

I wouldn't have minded it so much if they hadn't gave it the "Impreza" title.

They should have called it the new Justy ???

Yes it has a decent size boot and no doubt a good beat from the stereo too!

I'd rather a sexy 2 door P1 and a Xmas roof rack me

there is nothing wrong with the car apart from the name, impreza.if this was a new model hatchback i think most would lke it. they have kept the impreza name for marketing reasons ,this is not an impreza ,the impreza is a saloon ffs

I do like the white one to be honest, but i like the Mazda MPS, the Civic Type-r and Focus ST although none of them rock my world like the saloon Impreza.
The saloon of the 08 model doesnt work either. Like all hatchbacks that have been turned into a saloon, Focus, 306, Megan etc, the lines dont work. It looks off balance and out of proportion.
The WRX isnt going to perform much better than the previous one if its better at all, as it will be the same power.
The Sti should be a blinder though, it just seems that the appeal of the WRX is dead!!
