According to reports on the BBC, the FIA's World Motor Sport Council has proposed that McLaren are excluded from the 2007 and 2008 World Championships.
However, the corporation claims that the exact nature of the punishment which will be meted out is still being discussed.
As such, Lewis Hamilton's World Championship bid may yet be rekindled, with McLaren expelled from the Constructors' Championship but both Alonso and Hamilton to compete for the Drivers' title.

They've now published another update saying they jumped the gun:
The World Motor Sport Council has yet to agree on a final verdict, despite our earlier newsflash suggesting otherwise.
Sources have told autosport.com one of the options currently reviewed is to exclude McLaren from both the 2007 and 2008 championship - in line with the World Motor Sport Council's decision in July.
However the FIA said no decision has yet been made, although a verdict is expected imminently.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the PlanetF1 story just yet either...
especially as they are leading with the headline:
FIFA propose McLaren¿s expulsion
http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,1895...726626,00.html
I guess they didn't like England beating those Ruskies last night then

The outcome wont be decided for months anywa. Whoever loses today will appeal. Whoever loses the appeal will appeal again.
It will eventually be decided by a fist fight between Gordon Brown and Romano Prodi

I don't think any of the teams have a right to appeal.
Perhaps if McLaren are excluded from the remainder of 2007 & all of 2008 Mercedes would become the constructor next year?

McLaren have been stripped of their points in the 2007 Formula One constructors championship after the outcome of the 'spygate' row.
The team was also fined $100m (£49.2m) and will have to subject its 2008 cars to examination before racing, but the drivers retain their points this year.

I bet Ferrari will still moan, whinge and complain that it's not good enough, blah, blah, blah. Why's that lads? Can't win an F1 championship without either having a cheat of a driver or cheating in some other way?
Full story will be interesting to see, but it at least means that the drivers can still race, which is a good thing. What I want to see now is Fernando and Lewis decimate Kimi and Felipe, and for Lewis to go on to win the championship in his rookie season.

As for the outcome, I will need to read the full story regarding the evidence against McLaren before I pass judgement, but it seems draconian to me although not as bad as it could have been I guess.

Markus, Why not answer my question to you earlier in the thread rather than carrying on like a petulant child?

As for carrying on like a child, well, I'm probably just as childish as those who seem to think that Ferrari are whiter than white and can do no wrong and it's everyone else always out to get them I do wonder if you should change your name from f1_fan to ferrari_f1_fan

Don't forget it's not just 100million they are losing though, that figure might amount to small potatoes in the long run. This could severely impact their income stream. With sponsors perhaps pulling out etc etc because they don't want to be associated with the negative image this ruling portrays of McLaren.
Also I guess if McLaren are banned from participating in the constructors next year they won't be able to participate in any F1 publicity as a team?

I presume you mean the question regarding evidence I have that Ferrari has been naughty and obtained information about other teams cars? If so, then no I have no evidence, but as said, I doubt that Ferrari would turn down the chance to obtain information that would aid them, as would any other team. Eddie Jordan was interviewed and stated that this type of spying is rife in F1, thus I doubt a single team is above doing this type of other team.

Now if you can't see the difference between sneaking a look at a competitor's car or having a nosey around their garage to being in possession of their offical design specification and working practices then I can only assume that the train you refer to in your sig is bringing your brain and it has obviously never arrived.
Seriously take the blinkers off for goodness sake and look at this without the tabloid inspired viewpoint. All this Ferrari are the evil empire stuff, it's just plain silly. Either that or give me some real world examples of why they are so bad.
To come back to today, it is truly dreadful for the sport, of that there is no doubt, but like I say until I see what this evidence entails I cannot pass proper judgement. For F1 to be valid at the moment Mc Laren need to be on the grid, but on the other hand you can't let them get away with it if they really have cheated.
Trouble is deep down inside I can't help but feel this is Max Mosley's witch hunt of Ron Dennis brought to a head and if the evidence isn't conclusive the whole thing stinks. Yes by the way I said Max Mosley not Ferrari, just thought I would point that out.

Now if I were Ron Dennis, and I was totally convinced of my and my teams innocence (if that is the case). As principled as he allegedly is, I think I would just say right **** ya.. and pull the team anyway. Might hurt them financially but it'd make the point on principle, and give the FIA a good old kick up the rear as this season effectively collapses around their ears.
Still we know that'll never happen, and we don't know if they were truly innocent or not.

What people seem to be forgetting is that Mclaren didn't steal anything. They were given the information by a representative of Ferrari, (they didn't sneak into their garage and nick it).
Now it could be argued that they should have reported this straight away, and not used any of the information, but I find it quite interesting how all the blame is being placed upon Mclaren when it quite clearly isn't solely their fault. The $100million fine does seem excessive to me considering the circumstances...

Jackie Stewart is on record saying this is personal. There is a lot of bad blood between Ron Dennis and Max Mosely. Mosely has been out to get one over Ron Dennis for some time.
Another thing to consider is that the Ferrari documents were in the possession of Michael Coughlan not Ron Dennis. Also it is rumoured that both Michael Coughlan and Nigel Stepney were going to Honda next year. Now there's a team that could do with the information on how to win races.

I think the fine and the deduction of points will dent their cashflow - apparantly they pay their drivers with the money earned from the points. If sponsors pull out Mclaren might have to dig very deep into their pockets to get a decent car out next year (especially if it needs another redesign!)

Reworded for accuracy:
Ferrari is satisfied that it's closest rival has been taken out of the competition, leaving the way open for a magnificent Ferrari Constructors Championship win while potentially buggering up the opposition's chances for years to come.
If it was all just about the truth, they'd have left it as was.. McLaren found guilty of possessing the information and left it at that.
I mean have we actually had the truth? Will we actually ever know? Will the FIA publish all the evidence, and the minutes for today's hearing.. I doubt it!

This doesn't make sense - If they Mclaren cheated how can their drivers still be allowed to win the world championship?
The 100 million fine will include the TV money BTW, so it is quite possible they wont have to pay very much in actual $$$'s
