Surely Alonso's position at McLaren is now completely untenable. I'm amazed that Denis didn't sack him the second he tried to effectively to blackmail him. And even more so now - It's not as if he is contributing to the team with points. He has made it abundantly clear that he really doesn't give a **** about the team so long as he is winning.

think that would be taken as unfair dismissal, not allowed to do that im afraid.Remember the jenson button/williams/bar honda thing a few years back proves F1 drivers do really look out for number 1 but at the end of the day cant blame them.

I dont understand that either...
I am convinced that some will happen in a pits stop to make sure he is behind L.H. or instructed to pull over for leiws.
Will they really stand back and let Alonso win the title ?

I was thinking that too. If Alonso really did try and blackmail Dennis you can be sure that Alonso is in for some bad luck at some point. Experimental engine, lightweight wheel nuts? Who knows, but if he really did that, then there is no way he will win the championship. Taking Alonso out of the race will not hurt the constructors title, as they cannot score points.

They have a better chance of getting LH to the top with Alonso at this point in time. They need to keep points away from Ferrari. So for the moment Alonso will stay.
I wouldn't put it past Ron Dennis to publicly humiliate Alonso in the closing stages of the title challenge.
I.e. instruct pit crew not to touch Alonso's car on the final pit stops of the final race, hanging the guy out to dry ??
Might be far fetched but I cant see Ron rolling over and having his tummy tickled by Alonso

All good ideas except for the fact that the FIA have stated should McLaren be seen to deliberately treat Alonso differently to Hamilton they wil be penalised (again).
In fact I reckon they will almost have to help Alonso more than Hamilton so they are seen not to be doing anything untoward. It's a stupid situation.

I have had dealings with Ron Dennis in the past and I reckoned than as I do now that he is an honest and principled man. I think he will stay true to his own values and treat both drivers just the same. I would expect that Alonso will be looking for a drive somewhere else next year. If I was team principal I think that anyone who tried to blackmail me in such a way would get short shrift with respect to a job for next year.

Read the WMSC transcript, how is it Ferrari's fault? Agree the punishment is wrong, but McLaren are guilty here not Ferrari for goodness sake.

|i am surprised that you ask that question, perhaps you have an ulterior motive, especially since you find you have to sign off so rudely!
I could go through the history of the firm since it was started by a you New Zealander called Bruce who overcome personal illnesss to become a proficient F1 driver winning two races in his time. He also produced a "Big Banger" sports racer-the McLaren Chevrolet and unfortunately lost his life in an accident at Goodwood on a test day due to mechanical failure. He was known as a likeable and straightforward chap-like Ron Dennis in fact.
Ron Dennis merged his own firm with McLaren in the '80's and built it up to its present strengths and success. For your information they run F1 cars very successfully!
I do hope that is helpful to you and I will avoid the rude emoticon in my sign off!

I'm a McLaren fan, but I still think the punishment they received was justified - especially when you read the whole FIA document. There was no way De La Rosa was acting alone with Coughlan - other engineers must have been involved. I also don't hold much store in McLaren's assertion that they invited the FIA to inspect their car etc to see if there was any Ferrari IP on their car. That wasn't what they were charged with - i.e. that they used the data on their car.
BUT
What I do have a problem with is that Ferrari have not received any censure for their employee giving away the information in the first place.
Please note, for the hard of seeing, I fully believe McLaren's punishment was justified, and I am a McLaren fan.

Can't help thinking that the biggest loser in all of this is the sport of F1. It is meant to be the pinnacle of global motor racing and it is being reduced to the levels of a farce. My how impressed the sponsors must be...
And to add to earlier comments - how stupid can supposedly intelligent, highly technical people be to conduct these conversations over unsecured email? It really defies belief.

It's my belief - correct me in 3 or 6 months if I'm wrong - that this won't damage the sport much. I think everyone, even McLaren & Ferrari, are now trying to play the whole saga down and the message seems to be 'Let's get on with racing'. Today's news is tomorrow's chip paper after all.
What will be interesting now is the Alonso/Hamilton battle. I think Hamilton will need to say 'no more of Mr Nice Guy' if he's to win the championship, which I hope he does.
I hope Alonso goes back to Renault, and that he's a middle-pack runner next year. I've lost any respect for him this year, especially after the 'I brought 6 tenths to the team' comment.

Kimi is now only 13 points behind Hamilton and 11 behind Alonso.
Massa is too far behind, so assuming its a Ferrari 1-2 in the final 3 races of the season then Kimi collects 6 points more than the third place driver, so he could get 18 points more - ie more than enough to overhaul either. He doesnt even need to win all the races, he could come second in two with Massa winning.
At lot of people seem to think Alonso is now favourite as hes found his feet in the McLaren and has been a few tenths quicker than Hamilton in the last few races, but if Ferrari remain strong Kimi really could win it.
I'd actually like to see Kimi win as well, so go Kimi!!!

Well assuming the races finish Kimi, Massa, Alonso, Hamilton then Kimi would still win it

He's in with a realistic shot at the title anyway - IMO Ferrari will have the edge at the remaining tracks (well not really sure about Japan, but they should certainly at the otherS)

Alonso and Ron Dennis are not even on speaking terms apparently!
BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula One | Dennis reveals rift with Alonso
Surely this means Alonso is a dead cert to leave the team (and probably join Renault?) at the end of the season?

Yes I believe some is being given to various young driver's schemes and I think I read some will be given to the other F1 teams to make up for the places they have lost as a result of McLaren being ahead of them in the various races this season, but don't quote me on that.
