We arrived quietly and we left quietly.

The police would not let us go up the single track road leading to his house as the investigation was still ongoing but i am going past every day, i was his delivery driver for DHL. Once the police cordon is lifted i will move the tribute further up to the Front gates of the estate and after 3 weeks i will return and remove anything left behind as not to annoy anyone connected

Thank you Colin

Also showing on the sky news tv channel. A nice touch.

A sad day. It feels like the events of two years ago all over again. I'm another on the list of Scooby owners who wouldn't have and enjoy one if it wasn't for him. Why do the great always die young?

Thank you Colin. My thoughts are with you and the families of all involved.

PS. Say hi to Burnsie and Beef for us.

Can't quite believe it, I've stood in the middle of nowhere so many times to see the amazing car control of colin as he's flown by, it's why I love scoobies, such a tragedy, sympathies to the families involved.

Words can't describe how I feel.

I've been sat glued to the news hoping and praying that perhaps they had it wrong!
Don't drive a subaru, in fact I don't drive at all but watching Colin and Richard battle it out had me hooked the first time I saw the WRC.

My God, I have 2 step children, and can't begin too imagine how his poor wife and daughter feel - in tears now thinking about his whole family, as well as the families of the other 2 involved

My thoughts, love and care go too all involved x x

R.I.P Colin

Kirsty x

- Bet he's up there now going hell for leather against Richard (RIP) on a special stage with the most amazing view

The other sad thing is that he was just nearing landing after his journey when this tragedy happened.

When I first read about the helicopter crash on here early yesterday evening, I dismissed the fact that it was on McRae's land as being coincidental. Later, things were pointing more and more towards Colin being the pilot. I still couldn't believe it was true. It wasn't until the police made a statement earlier today that I accepted that Colin was the pilot, and had been killed, along with is son and two others.

Colin seemed to be one of those immortal people - I was reminded of Senna's crash at Imola - surely he couldn't have died?

I've never met him personally, but I've seen Colin's driving on a number of occasions - Colin was always an amazingly entertaining driver. You could always tell when Colin was driving, from how sideways he drove, and how close he always seemed to be from crashing, but always so fast! He was one of the main reasons to stand on mountian sides in November to spectate the British round of the World Rally Championship. I also remember watching Colin and Alistair at the Rallyday 2 years ago trying to drive the whole of Castle Coombe circuit sideways in their Mk2 escorts.

From his WRC debut in a Sierra, he was forever keeping a panel beater in business. I seem to recall during the course of one 1000 Lakes rally, his Legacy rolled a total of 17 times!!

He was a major factor in making Subaru, Prodrive and of course Colin McRae Rally the household names and successes they are today.

RIP Colin McRae, you are a legend.

I've 'just' got back of The Lakes. I heard the news like many others during the Blegium GP yesterday. I was shocked, saddened and deeply mortified by this extreamly sad news. My upmost sympathy goes out to the McRae family and close friends.

we've lost 3 great british heros in WRC, Michael 'Beef' Park, Richard Burns and now Colin Mcrae.

There's nothing I can add that hasn't already been said. Like so many others on here, it was Colin who inspired me to become a scooby owner and also to stop being an armchair rally fan and get out into the forests and watch the sport for real.

My deepest condolences to the McRaes and the other families involved.

Agreed - me too. Really nice touch that Grant - well done.

I've added details of the condolence book on the McRae website to a sticky thread as well.

Mourn not for Colin.
Mourn for the others, especially two children who will never show their potential, and the families who will have to carry on.
Colin was one of those individuals who was able to live two lifetimes in the space of half a lifetime for most.
Would that we all could.

Default My Take On The Rally Poem

My Memories Of Rally GB

We got up early, in fact it was dark
To see Colin & Derek drive out of the Parc
From England to Wales we had to go
Come rain, wind hail & snow

We’d go on Wednesday for our week away
Four lads in a Transit that was the way
An old sofa and stools that’s what we took
We slept in the van covered in muck

Up at dawn to see the first car
We had to walk miles or look from afar
Through mud and fields and forests we marched
When we got to the stage we were usually parched

A diet of bacon and beans and beer
For one whole week used to make us feel queer
If we needed a pee we’d go in the bush
It was usually so cold that we’d have to rush

Out in the forest was always good fun
Watching Jimmy and Colin, the much quicker son
The marshals would shout he’s on his way
We would all cheer and whistle and say

That was quick! He’s on a mission

Popping and banging, your discs used to glow
With antilag flaming, as you drove through the snow
Sweet Lamb, Haffren in fact every stage
You drove like a man focussed with rage

And now that your gone
The thrills are no more
You’re far to young to be at Gods door

Up in heaven with Johnny at rest
With Possum and Burnsey, Subaru’s best!

We bid you farewell, the man of extremes!
The man who created my driving dreams
As we say goodbye and lay you to rest
We now know the true meaning of flat out over crest!
