I know what you're saying Corradoboy, as I am aware that many modern cars have a 'smart' alternator. However, after my original battery died, I got into the habit of driving with sidelights during the day, but my new uprated battery still can't last more than 7-10 days if unused. I think it must be due to extra alarms etc.

I think the only answer is one of the battery optimisers that have been suggested.

There is a known level of current drain that is in acceptable limits whilst the engine is off/alarm on etc.....

I know because it was quoted to me and they said 'yes, its draining too much ,more than xxx mA' then it was attributed to the tracker. I cannot remember what the value is now, but it only takes one phone call to a dealer to find out.

Driving around with your lights on 'just' to force the alternator to charge is not an acceptable solution IMO.

On two occasions this year i've been abroad for a week and on my return my 03STi has failed to start due to a flat battery.....what the hell is that all about?
Every other bog standard car i've had would start first time after 2-3 weeks

Had flat battery twice on my WRX coming back from holidays, so following advice on here went to Costco and bought a Bosch Asia Silver series battery for about £49.00. Left it for 3 weeks this year, no probs. Jobs a good 'un
