it wouldnt do anything for the deceased because they would be dead,it would help the deceased family though.

and it would repair your car if damaged.

obviously you have drove without insurance as you state for some strange reason "we have all done it"well let me set the record straight we havnt "all done it".

hes very very lucky not to have killed someone or wrote off somebody elses pride and joy.
its obvious what needs to be done with the car sell in bits or sell whole end of.

Sorry to hear that mate, thats tough luck - insurance or no insurance.

I would think selling the car for 2,5k and buying a new one is a much better choice than taking a shell from another car and rebuilding it - even if you do that you will still end up with a "half right" car which will cost peanuts when you decide to sell.

Learn your lesson and move on, no points pondering or crying about it when it already happend.

Nope, you can drive anything that you are licensed for whenever you want.
(some policys have restrictions though.)

as for the car... offered 2.5k???

There was a P1 shell that went for 750 a couple of weeks ago.

I'd be on the look out for a shell and re shell it. either that or get it repaired, it's not on the list because you had no insurance to claim off. theres no way I would take a hit of 5.5k.

Not wanting to rub in the no insurance as I'm sure you've learned a costly lesson ! - but imagine what would have happened had you hit another car - say had a head on and written of someones £30K motor ???

I'd imagine that selling the car for bits is the best plan, the amount you'll spend on fixing it, you probably wont get back on the sale price, and the amount your insurance is going to go up now, you'll be stuck in 1.0 cars for a while.

For others in a similar position - when I bought mine ( didnt have another car at the time ) I phoned the insurance company a couple of days before and told them I was going to buy a car at around 7pm and the day, and they said they could start the insurance from 6pm on the day I got it so I would be covered in time to pick it up and drive it home. If for any reason I didnt buy the car, I could phone them the next day and they would cancel the policy.

I think there may have been an admin fee of about £30 to pay if I cancelled the policy within 24 hours of starting it, but that would still be cheap compared to writing off an £8K car, and getting loads of points on my license.

I got rear ended at a fair speed (estimated 25mph impact) writing my car off and sending me and 4 family members to hospital.

After realising I was not going back to work for a few months I was then hit with another piece of news, the other driver was not insured.

So now 1 written off car, lots of time off work, and 3 family members with remaining injuries......

Thankfully Direct Line pay out and dont steal your NCB, so thank you to Direct Line, thank you to RAC for all the accident after care, solicitor, legal representation etc.... And no thanks to un-insured people.

Fast car, which just cost loads of your cash + no insurance.... oh dear.

I feel for you losing what you have, and am thankful no one inc you was hurt, but being told by the police at the scene of an accident, as your car sits there written off, and your niece is taken away on blues and twos, that the other driver is not insured............. Sorry just dont cut it.

I feel for you

Would the car not be worth keeping and save for the repairs to be done. Anything is fixable with the right amount of cash isnt it?

Could be worth buying an early one with a blown engine and transfering your motor and any othe rnice parts across ?

Driving with no insuranc eis a no no. But let up on him a bit, he knows he has done wrong, he's lost his car and thankfully nobody was hurt. As long as its a lesson learn't he does not need people going on about being un-insured...

He will get enough of that from the cops/courts..

And before anyone jumps on me, im not defending uninsured drivers at all.. It could have been a lot worse, but it wasn't, he should and by sounds of things does, count himself lucky!

lol

Scoobynet or Chavnet?

Sorry, no excuses for no insurance. Period.

Most are open on a Saturday/Sunday and can provide instant cover if required.

One ten minute telephone call would have saved you £5,500 (and probably six points and a fine)

Having said that, to roll and cause that much damage suggests you were driving beyond your ability, and at reasonable speed.

The only good thing to come out of this is that you didn't involve anyone else. Count yourself lucky.

A good point... Cars being driven sensibly do not roll easily.. especially if nobody else is involved!

Not clever what he did, and he paid for it.

But just think, he could have easily posted:

Flipped my type r!

Guys I flipped my type r, 8k down!

Replies:

Lol you were driving too fast blah blah blah!

--------

Difference, he would have had insurance in the above scenario. Count yourself lucky and unlucky, you lost your car and money however you didn't kill anyone or damage someone elses car.

I know you probably thought it would be okay but it didn't, at least your honest enough to admit you learn your lesson and that counts in my book.

Highly unlikely you were going slow and steady though however these car's are very deceptive, you don't realise how fast or how hard your driving when being in the drivers seat.. Personally I have encountered a freak round about and lived to drive another day.

I can't understand why anyone would want to intensionally drive an 8 grand high performance car uninsured - for whatever reason.

To crash the car on the way home - just makes me glad that you did a good job of it and wrote it off.....hopefully you won't be driving in a fast car again until you've learnt to drive properly in a few years time.

However, on the up side, your accident won't have been one of the ones to boost my insurance premium for next year.......

Just rung my insurance company about this to confirm and they say the car MUST be insured irrespective of what is actually disclosed on the policy. Kind of makes sense otherwise kids would be insuring cheap dogs and running around third party in high performance cars.

May just be my insurers but thats how I've always understood it and would not be taking any chances personally but each to their own.

It doesnt matter what they say: the cover provided is as described on the certificate. Their interpretation doesnt offer alter the cover described. If the endorsement states that the car must be insured elsewhere for the cover to be in effect, then so be it, it it doesnt then the cover exists.

In theory the other car needs to be insured from a legal point of view, as oince you get out the car you're leaving an ininsured car on the public highway.
Wether you'd be ok whilst driving from an insurers point of view might change from company to company, although all will state the car can't be owned by yourself

I can assure you all i wont be driving again with no insurance, i hve definatley learnt my lesson after being lucky to walk out of this alive, not injuring anyone else and losing an 8k car. At the time i was very excited to get another scooby and thought i would be ok on the drive home, i would have never expected to crash as i have done this a few times before, i know people might not agree with this but im sure a lot of people drive home without insurance, people are different and i was willing to take the risk of a drive home without insurance. If i could go back to last weekend i would do it all differently, i made a silly mistake and i have to move on now, i have been offered 2.5k for the car which i will use to buy another car. I have kept the ecu and boost controller which i will sell seperatly. I will post some pics up later tonight.

considering the amount of flak youve recieved, i appreciate you havent retaliated and started throwing insutls about.

but you did something daft (monumentally daft) and have paid the price.

this is coming from someone who wrote a sport off after 2 months of passing his test (and was 3rd party on a car worth at the time circa £4.5k with mods) so i know exactly where your coming from.

i got £250 from a scrappy for the sport, it was that mangled.

one thing - DONT DO IT AGAIN

glad you and your surroundings survived anyways
