I couldn't do it and I'd had nothing to really scare me into it, so good luck.

Soon the Gov will stop treating smokers on the NHS as it's self inflicted, regardless of the millions smokers have paid to them in tax as the NHS have too many alkies, dole spongers and illegal immigrants to support now, funny thing is none of them have ever nor will ever pay any of it back

I'm gibbering now, anyone fancy a Tammy dodger?

I know mate

I am suffering from that man flu at the moment so have cut down quite a lot, and now 2 of the kids have got man flu too, with the 3rd about to come down with it

They have it worse than me, but I am more ill cos im a bloke

Seriously though I know what you mean, the government will never ban them, until they find another way of making the billions a year that will lose from the revenue

It amazes me at the local hospital, they have massive signs up on the doors outside about how smoking is banned and how especially dangerous it is to all the unborn babies, and to NOT smoke in the immediate areas, the irony of it is, the only smokers I have seen stood outside the hospital are all the pregnant women off the wards

I don't know for sure and tbh I don't know if I ever will, but I'm sure it's contributed to it if it isn't the actual cause... I work as a flooring contractor (not domestic flooring but industrial) and have had to work with some mental adhesives (many of which are banned due to their content now) which could be be blamed, I really dunno BUT my Gran died of throat cancer when I was 5, my Dad kept saying to me 'Your voice sounds like my mothers in her latter years, so I am gonna quit the cigs.

I'm babbeling on again

That is so true, I saw folks out in the hospital garden whilst their babies were in ITU (due to their parents smoking/drinking) smoking away like there is no tomorrow

Oh and just for the record I never smoke in the house or the car, in fact my kids never knew I even smoked till a few months ago.

In all honesty Tam, you probably don't really enjoy smoking that much - i used to use that argument, but now I'm a non smoker it doesn't make sense anymore.

Get yourself on the NHS quit smoking thing, get on patches for 16-20 weeks then be happy knowing you should live longer.

My folks still smoke 40 a day (in house and car) which is causing huge problems for me at the minute due to my 6 month old lad and me not wanting him to be near them cos they stink

Just give it up, you don't really need to smoke.

I was really worried about going under before I had my tonsils out. As it turned out, it was quite a serene experience. My morphine probably helped

If the biopsy shows something bad, you'll know within a few days at the most.

Good luck.

Dunno, but it is what people do when they need people most imo. I did it when I started to be ill and managed to loose touch with some of my best mates. I and they have all since moved, changed mobile numbers and emails...bugger!!

Fight it, force yourself to go out and stay in touch. If you are in a bit of a ****ty mood, just let them know

Hi Tam, I am trying to give up smoking and have not had one for 10 days. I previously smoked upto 25g of Samson per day.
The doctor has prescribed me "Champix" and so far, I am managing really well.
The link below is very informative.

Best of luck

Mike

Thank you, I'll have a look in to that as I'm going to need something, giving up without patches etc isn't working too well.

OMG, I nearly spat my tea over my monitor when I saw that. You were only meant to squash the negativity out of him, not his whole life force PMSL.

Oi Tam!!

Hope everything goes well on Friday - you haven't been trying out on the X factor, have you? snagged from the net..

'People who use their voices a great deal, such as professional singers, teachers, auctioneers, lecturers, and members of the clergy, are prone to have nodules on their vocal cords. Like polyps, nodules may develop as a result of excessive use of the voice. A nodule differs from a polyp in that it is a growth of the epithelium that covers the mucous membrane, not of the mucous membrane itself. Thus, it has a structural resemblance to a corn on a toe or a callus on the hand. If one has vocal cord nodules, the voice will become breathy and hoarse. Polyps are lesions that develop from voice abuse, chronic laryngeal allergic reactions and chronic inhalation of irritants, such as industrial fumes and cigarette smoke.'

I hopeyou don't intend to eat all those jammies by yourself...
