I'm suprised you of all people would, I had you down as the type who would be shouting to the anglers that they are not dredging the boy out the pond the correct way.

Thus far there are two media versions. And neither of which can be concluded as correct or not. Until then, I'll do what the journos do; bend the version of events to suit my argument:

....Which is PCSOs are useless and a waste of public funding

I do feel a bit sorry for the PCOs actually - they have it drilled into them not to do things they haven't been trained to do, mainly because if they're injured doing something they're not trained for its open season for 'no win no fee' lawyer scum. They were stuck between a rock and a hard place and now have to live with the consequences of not breaking the stupid protocol.

Not really - the only consequence of them breaking the protocol would have been that they have gotten wet....hopefully they can live with that?

Everyone here who is saying they would have jumped in just think of the problems that could have occured. Your actions of just jumping into a large lake and flapping around trying to find the child could actually have killed him.

In the event of a still lake (as opposed to tidal waters) with someone under and nowhere to be seen a good point to start would be observing the water to look for movement, bubbles etc as the person under could be still moving in a blind panic creating a lot of water disturbance. That would have helped pinpoint the child. rescue services could not have used a technique like this is every tom, dick and harry were jumping in flapping around.

If the boy had been saved after using a search technique like that the incident coordinator would have been branded a hero. Though I bet at the time they were doing it they would have been abused by the public.

No win situation to a sad, tragic accident.
