Do a youtube search for mig airshow crash,

It happened earlier this year in the ukraine (if i recall)

Be warned !!!!!

its horrific with dead bodies and body parts caught on camera,

Its over 18 age limit, and you have to be a you tube member

basically the mig pilot overcooked it and slammed into the crowd on a low level flyby

at least 3 seperate video clips caught the incedent and are spliced to make the film

If you mean the Sukhoi crash in the Ukraine, it seems he hit some birds, being too low and having performed the maneuver a bit "off" (and towards the crowd area) he then slammed into the crowd, but they managed to eject............

The first two illustrate my point perfectly - taxying the stabilator/taileron is in the same position as in the original photo.

The third shows definite positive pitch. About the same amount as is negative in the origial shot, I'd say. Which makes it even more likely in my mind that the original is photoshopped.

No matter anyway - thanks for finding some great pictures of a beautiful aeroplane

PS Sorry about the appalling typing in my earlier post - had some keyboard problems and didn't notice until I just looked at the post again (blush)

Yes I have seen a video of that, can't remember where now. He cuts the engine at height and does aeros all the way down to an engine off landing.

You have to get that one right first time!

I am not one for gore at all, I watched this whilst perusing various avaiation videos on YouTube and perhaps this will explain my relucatance to take my kids to an airshow again, not saying I wont ever take them but that really brings home the true horror of what happens when it goes wrong.

I can understand how you feel since I don't like to see things like that myself. I was at the Farnborough air display as a young child when John Derry and his companion were killed in the DH 110 when it disintegrated while flying towards the crowd at low level and many were killed largely on the hill behind us. We were behind the 10/- enclosure and were within a few yards of the same fate which is where the nose section thumped in.

The regulations were changed to prevent aircraft flying over the audience after that, and in this country now the display aircraft may no longer fly closer than a line 1500 feet in front of the crowdline. That should make it comparatively safe now.

Regarding whether the Sukhoi is Photoshopped, there's another picture taken by somebody else at the same display from the opposite side: Airliners.net Photos: Russia - Air Force Sukhoi Su-27UB

It appears to be a different point on the runway though.

I had one in Glasgow, the pilot couldn't seem to get the wings on the little Embraer level so had another go, it was kind of waddling.

OK, I think I'm mistaken.

Janspeed, you are truly a master of finding very low flying and totally genuine shots

And I've been a cynical old journalist for too long...

Having watched the video carefully, although he was slightly out of balance as he rolled into the turn, his wingtip did remain reasonably high above the ground. Impressive sight anyway.

Yes I enjoyed that one Janspeed. I can't help remembering though when the Jaguar first appeared they wanted some film of a battle formation of Jaguars at low level over Germany for publicity purposes. I was sent off in a modified B(I)8 Canberra with a cine camera in the tail to take the pics. They were following me around the Lorelie bit of the Rhine and I had to turn onto a new track. I used about 40 degrees of bank which is not that much when they called up to request I reduced bank so that they could turn with me!.

I couldn't believe it at the time with all the hype which preceded it but it turns out that it is great at low level in a straight line but not ever so good in the twisties!

I would want to be in the sukhoi even less ,especially when you see the reflection of the tail fin about 2 feet off the water.

The pilot is either extremely skilled with ***** of steel or was just released from a mental asylum and stole the plane
