Is a VF23 still the turbo of choice?

Theo,
Very confusing, especially after reading this,
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=58426
I think I better ring up that tuner in OZ again. Costing me a fortune ringing OZ, especially with the Greek, expensive, call charges.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Mr J...maybe it's time to sort that Link now?
Running that turbo on the stock ECU:s fuelling is asking for trouble.
Welcome to the scoobynet btw, always nice with more turnips 'ere.

I did fit a VF29 (+MoTeC) but it dropped boost at 6000 rpm (!). Fitted old MD04 no probs at same max boost (1.2) (!!). Fortunately dieseldistributors in nz gave me a new VF22 free of charge to try in replacement, ill let u know about how laggy this is with stock intercooler.

Sam............you're a pessimist.
Tim......I thought the VF22 was a bigger turbo than the VF23?so should be able to flow more air than the VF23 and hence more boost?
Or is it the case that it can give more boost but is not as capable in the reliabilty stakesagainst the VF23?

a little birdy told me that you have just spoken to Kevin at Falkland perf.
one thing to bear in mind though, the standard ECU will not be able to control the VF23, but you know that i am sure.
you can ask alan garrod about his VF22 and the standard ECU!

Evenin' All.
As I mentioned in my original post I already have a boost controller fitted (HKS EVC4). This is set at 1 and 1.2 bar and I find that on the 1.2 setting boost no sooner reaches 1.2 than it falls way back again which I presume is due to the turbo literally running out of puff with the other breathing mods I have made - I have noticed this getting worse as I have made each mod. I intended to fit a VF23 and leave the boost settings as they are at least until I can do something about the ECU. Ideally I would like a Link but would prefer to make all the other mods first one at a time, checking fuelling etc at each step so that the Link could be set up and left alone. For the record I also have an AFR meter and EGT gauge so I can keep an eye on things. So, can I conclude from what you say above that it will be (reasonably!) safe for me to go ahead?
Raymond.
PS: It would be great if somebody like Star could offer a fitting service for Link/Unichip/Apexi/HKS Super AFC etc... Maybe we should have a concerted go at them, there must potentially be a fair bit of business out there. I have a Unichip dealer fairly locally who has a 2wd dyno but I haven't asked them yet if they can set the Unichip up on the road as Bob does with the Link and I don't think that they have any Subaru experience either.

you should have no problems then, the evc should control the boost and the afr and egt will tell you if things are not right.
enjoy the VF23 it is a good choice.
check the mrt website http://www.mrtrally.com.au/ their perfromance products section have a good info about turbos according to them you should go for a vf30
