1st car was a 1962 Triumph Herald, dont regret selling that, but do regret selling my prized 1964 Bonneville to buy it. Wish I still had that.

Yes very much so. It was a Mk1 Golf GTI Campaign model with the 1.8 engine/5 speed box in black with BBS wheels and was immaculate. I used to as good as valet it every weekend. Sad really on several counts

TYP 365M

It was a dark red (formerly blue) manual (formerly automatic) MK 1 Escort 1.3L

It had a Halfords 13" steering wheel
It had GL wheels
It had a pancake filter
And an Air Horn

It cost £50

DO I miss it?

Not in the slightest.

My first car was a Ford Anglia which I bought for the princely sum of £85 when I was 16 in anticipation of passing my driving test shortly after my 17th birthday. Every time I went out for a lesson in it my Dad had to come and tow me home and, by the time I passed my test a few months later the thing was sat in our car park with 7" fungi growing in the passenger footwell and a very dead engine. I sold it for £90 to some guys who towed it away to turn it into a banger for racing. Actually when I think about it it didn't need much work doing to turn it into a banger

So no, I didn't miss it

I can see the warning in the manual now:

"Warning: improper towing procedure may lead to engine failure and/or excess fungal growth in interior. Always use Ford recommended tow rope, available at exhorbitant cost from your dealer"

I saved up while i was in Canada doing my training and was able to put a down payment on a Bristol 400 when I came back here. It was a beautifully made car, the Bristol aircraft technicians made them to stay in work. Even the doors had a full spray glossy finish underneath the trim where the windows etc. were.

I sold it so I could buy a tax free car when I was serving in Germany, but was always sorry it had to go.

It was in first class condition and if I still had it, it would be worth aroung £25K I imagine.

On another tack, I used to own a Vincent White Shadow when I was first into biking. It was a very rare version of the Black Shadow and I got it into top condition. I had to sell it when I was posted to Canada.

Bonhams sold one of these a short while ago for £87K !!!

I've just spent 3.5 years and £8000 tuning my 205 into a very fast road beast with 230bhp/ton.

I've driven about 3000 miles in it since I bought it, the majority of that on 3 French Car Shows. I'm now a dad and things have changed, so I'm about to start breaking it and selling the bits off even though I haven't used it properly yet or done any trackdays.

I know I will regret doing it, but I want something more modern (Scoob) so it has to go soon.

Things change, nothing stays the same or lasts forever.

Most certainly, I was 16 I bought a series one RST that had its engine seized after 3000km.

The origional owner set about a 6 year long court case against Ford after they wouldn't pay out. During that time it sat in his garage gather dust and moss.

Finally the origional owner won and was paid off, but he was quite happy to leave the car in his garage for afurther few years until I discovered it one day doing my paper round. After eyeing it up for a while I made the bloke and offer, he accept and I was it's new owner.

It needed new paint and an engine rebuild and a dam good clean but that was pretty much it. I started saving and then uni came along and I could afford to get it fixed up.

I decided to sell it, biggest mistake of my life. Some months later the guy I sold it to set me a photo rebuild file with the car strip to a bare shell, painted underneath, inside and out and the engine all chromed and rebuilt. The receipts owed him £9kplus but the car was amazing.

He did exactly what I wanted to do to it, and more. Sickenings me to look at it. 3000miles, one owner, custom model, prime for winnings loads of car shows. Gutted doesn't come into it. Why oh Why did I sell it?

No, its going I'm afraid, or at least its being put back to near std Mi16. Just been out in it for the past 2 hours and its TOO fast - I come back shaking when I drive it rather than smiling

Its a great car - I only went to B&Q for some tape and it took me 2 hours as I couldn't resist going for a spin but I scare myself silly in it.

Plus the Mrs can't drive it and the kids seat doesn't really fit in the back so it never gets used.

A WRX PPP Sportswagon is calling out to me very strongly.

If I knew what I know now.

I had a K reg (1971) MKI escort 13 GT in mexico orange, back in 84 my first car it was pristine owned by an elderly couple garaged all it's life.

I bought this for the grand sum of £50.00, wished I had the foresight to have loved it, and garage it.

To be honest wished I hade or was in the position then to have kept my first 5 cars.

a further 2 MKI's including mexico
2 MkII's including RS2000

MK1 Capri, my dad had it from 3 years old, I had grown up with it, sold it to get a newer car, wasnt practical to keep it, its still around I think, I keep my eye out as if it turns up again I will buy it, I got in touch with its owner in about 95 when I worked for the Police in pre data protection days, he was willing to sell it but I was skint and had nowhere to put it, the trail has gone cole now.

My first car was a 20GL Cavalier 8V. I sold it to a bloke who wrote it off within an hour and a half. He totally destroyed it. He was travelling along a mountain road (theres loads of them where I live) about 80, went through a set of railings, down the mountain side and onto the roof of an end of terrace house.

I sold him the car exactly 12noon. i know this because I had my suspicion he would boot the car and perhaps get cought on camera. So I made sure we both had written and signed statements/receipt citing the time and day the car was sold to him.

By 2pm I had a call off the police asking if the cav had been stolen. To verify it hadn't i had to attend the local nick to make a statement and show the receipt. The car was in a police compound in a nearby town. The clock inside said 1.30 exactly, which is the time the fireman disconnected the battery. So the numpty only had the car one and half hours.

I later found out that when the car landed on the roof of the house it knocked masonry down onto the roof of the house holders BMW. The poor man suffered a double insurance whammy that day.

I still got the photos of the wreck.

Sounds like my first 205 GTI Dan - bough in 97 and sold to a local lad in 98.

2 weeks later my dad rang me to say it was in the local accident place - he'd driven into the step on the back of a wagon on his way to work as the sun had blinded him and it had bent all the a frame back, smashed the screen, and bent all the roof - write off

It was only 8 years old then and a minter so I was a bit gutted

Unhappy Yes - very much

1965 Series IIA SWB Land Rover (Petrol).

Sold it for £1500 in 1987, just before my 20th birthday, 20 years later, on as I approach my 40th birthday, I very much regret parting with my old Landie.

Even more regrets, as last year I saw it being driven along the A491 to Bromsgrove.

HKX 780C - still going strong after 43 years.

In hindsight, I would be a very wealthy man if I had kept her.

Something about old Landies that gets under your skin.

I was a bit gutted too, especially as technically it was still mine. It was me who told the DVLA I had sold it and been subsequently wrecked. So I was the last official owner
