Halti's are great, once they stop fighting lol.

lol how the hell you gettin your dog in a hydrotherapy bath!
I need a pool that can support his weight on the edges.

Cheers, seem to have got some great shots of him recently. Really must get some time to do a proper shoot

We had to use the harness lift to get her in, every week she learnt all the tricks we was using to temp her in, so we put her in the harness and lift her in, its funny watching her lift her legs up as she gets nearer the water, as soon as shes in she loves it.

Will probably go for the h/harness, the halti head collars are ok but so many people think they are muzzles.

As soon as Ynuk gets to about a year he too will be back packed up, something along these lines me thinks:

Back packs are:
Canine Spirit Dog Boots, Dog Coats, Dog Life Jacket, Dog Packs, Dog Harnesses, Dog Beds and other Dog Accessories
The owner actualy got them from Ebay but She has had a look and the people are no longer on there.

I personaly think they are the best i've seen, almost professional, if that makes sense?

We used a local company called abilityhound for the hydrotherapy, we can go as and when, to keep the dogs fully fit.

Cheers for the link mate We have just ordered one from Wolfpacks WOLF PACKS® - Banzai Dog Pack So will see how we do with this, but those do look very good too.

Will have to have a look if there is anywhere like that round here too. He loves the water, I just dont like the smells that come with ponds and other such sources round here lol.

They just love it, don't they!

No need to walk them today, open the back door and they run out and don't stop jumping and tumbling around together.

Then they pop in for a little sleep, then back at the door wanting to go out.

Hehe thats the spirit. I appreciated the snow more walking in it with the dog, rather than driving in it this afternoon!! lol

He has had his snow for the year now, unless the evening brings more.

Glad I have some pics of him in the snow now though

Hey - you took a shot with your head lower than the dog's!!! Looks far better. Now have you bought a sled yet? Harvey Nicks do 'em

Now did someone meantion Haltis here? Absolute and total unecessary item (and I speak as one who's OES actually developed enough neck muscle to defeat one!). The trick is to teach them to walk PROPERLY (slightly behind you) and this takes 5 mins - I was taught by a PRO! My 4 yr old nephew walks him now - honest.

You won't get me disagreeing with the need for Haltis. Another false quick fix for doing something properly in my experience of handling and training powerful dogs. Time and effort has no substitute. I'd disagree on the 5 minutes timescale though on any dog with anything resembling drive.

Stopping a big dog from pulling is difficult but once achieved (constant stopping and starting) its great to see it walk on a totally loose lead.

However.........

Getting a Mal to walk behind you is more an art than a talent
Not impossible, but I would like to see some try lol

Shot head lower than the dog?? eh lol.
As for a sled, far too young for one

lol funny you should say that I believe 90% of the time I indeed have perfected the art.

However from my experience with other breeds, I personally would say its far easier getting "other" breeds to walk to heal, than mal's etc. As most Mal owners would agree.

Again 90% of the time, its something that can be overcome, but certainly with a little more will power than for some others.

Don't disagree with the work involved as I said above but it can be done if it's important to an owner.

I think thats the fine line im drawing to be fair. Him pulling me along is not too bad as long as he heals when commanded, which he does.
I would say its in their nature to pull. But Mal's are not usually seeking a sled to pull from birth as a destiny, so I wont be that ignorant lol.

But keen to get where we are going is fine by me. Heals on command, just needs frequent reminders

I'm sure your breeder would want to know as any reputable breeder wants to know what goes on with their pups.

This has recently been documented as a common issue with crossing Huskys and Malamutes as their bone structure/density is very different, although their faces look the same

I think in the beginning you were advised that you would pay severely in the end : I'm glad I dont have to eat my hat. Hope the poor pup recovers, he didn't ask to be unscrupulously bred.

Aren't they ? Funny how a Mal's instincts kick in when a harness is put on them!

Haltis are frequently used by people who own Sled dogs, as yes they are taught properly to heel, however I would like to see one of these so called experts try and teach a Greyhound NOT to chase a rabbit if the natural instincts are there!

Malamutes pull, yes they can heel, but they still pull at a steady pace, which is tiring, and with the best will in the world, even the worlds dog experts have tried to teach a Malamutes instincts out of them and failed.

Instinct is not the same as a taught/learned behaviour, the two must not be confused.

b road blaster, fingers crossed for Blitz

We are doing Spoons, stop and start with Jet. Walk takes twice as long but it does seem to be working, slowly.

lol aaaaah shurrup you know what I mean.

Cheers Lee.
I do lots of stop start, random commands etc with Tuvaaq which is how we have got where we have. His recall was tested yesterday too, and works well
Off lead distance command is the one thats taking time, but getting there.

Like I say, he walks to heal when told to, but not as an immediate instinct like some dogs. When we are out in the country and parks I like to let him be as natural as possible. But recall and heal command will usually get him into check

I'm not the one who's disappointed

You have been in the 'breed' for 8 weeks, lets' leave it at that eh?!

What advice/help has your breeder offered you by the way ?

I don't doubt you'll give the dog a good home if you say so but that is far from the issue.

Enjoy him.
well said. Been keeping an eye on this from a distance and I am how far did he fall to cause an injury like that 20 ft. Is the vet sure theres not a weakness there anyway ie, as the dog has no hip score, this is a classic example as to why they are so so important. I hope your lad gets well soon as for the breeder well I doubt they will be any use to you now they have your money

Ello all again, I thought I might as well just update this thread rather than start a new one

So, introducing Aanaga.............

She is a 12 week old Malamute bitch, I am fostering but would love to (and may) keep if all works out.
She is pure like Tuvaaq, with a good pedigree etc.

They play so well together, its nice to see Tuv happy

So here she is, along with Tuvaaq who is now almost 14 months.

Hope the dog lovers enjoy
