Also though where the disabled bays are concerned I think somebody needs to have a word with those badge owners that sit in the car while somebody able bodied goes shopping for them.

That's equally an abuse of the valuable parking space. If you're not getting out there's no need to have pole position.

Think it's a great idea With my kid seats in the car, I get to park where I don't get door dings.

Bring it on

Very good point too, Spoon.

With most things, there's opportunity for the p1ss to be taken. This is what this incentive is trying to combat

Tax on the idle and a good thing - particularly in respect to disabled bays.

Had a think about the larger space issue on the way in this morning, the 4x4 thing just means that too many cars are too wide for the spaces these days.

Solution - larger bays at the far end of the car park furthest from the doors. A lot of performance car drivers park there anyway because they don't want damage and it will be a good test for those who actually car about their car versus those that are just too freakin idle to waddle into the shop for a cream bun from an extra 50yds away.

Forget the fact that parents find it easier to get shopping and kids into a car when its in a P&C space.......Supermarkets are business, families are their biggest customers - i have 4 kids and spend more in Sainsbury's that any knobber picking up his meal for one, can a larger and nuts magazine.

They are simply looking out for their best customers.

Cars were much smaller

I have a 1991 car and its narrower than a Ford KA so fits in a normal space no problem.

I wouldn't mind the PC spaces being at the end of the car park, or even across the road providing they are wide enough - my main concern is not denting someones pride and joy with our rear doors - they are small but open to 90 degrees.

So, the next time you all see some boy band haircut lad in an SUV parking in a PC space without any kids, have a think on what happens when we turn up for the shopping later on - we have to park in a narrow space next to your Scoob - now I wont give you a door ding, but the next parents may

I do make a point of telling people what I think when they have no kids, or are not disabled and park in those spaces
Im glad im not the only one who does this.

Im surprised people are worried about being fined. - Dont park there and you wont be .

Disabled spaces are for disabled people. Some of which need to be put directly into a Wheelchair from the car/mobility van.

Parent spaces are for people with kids that cannot walk and need to be put directly into a trolley/pushchair/pram from the car.
A 15year old kid in a hoodie is not really what they meant.

Great idea

I'd also advocate child free times, off peak, so to speak. I accept that some parents have to take their kids to the shops, but it would be nice to be able to go without the carnage that is caused by parents who don't seem to have any control over their kids running amock.

I don't think people are necessarily worried about being fined, this thread is just a vehicle for slagging poor people, lazy people and people with kids off!

CORRECT!

The laws changed circa 1996, prior to that if you had an accident in a carpark you could actually refuse to allow people to claim on your insurance and the police also did not have powers to stop un-roadworth vehicles. Total opposite these days.

my dad had a mkV cortina which is still a little wider than a Ka...but I'm splitting hairs as modern cars are wider\longer. I seem to remember being put back in the car by my parents and then them filling the boot with shopping...I guess thats down to technique

I very rarely take my scoob to the supermarket, I take my runaround or cycle and when it is there it's parked in the furthest corner of the car park.

Blimey, you leave a thread for half an hour...

Righto, in no particular order:

Hunt: Wind yer neck in

Dream Weaver: Spot on, that's what I was trying to say

Person who asked what happened when these bays started appearing: Compare the Peugeot 307 (a small, family car) with my wifes Forester, they're roughly the same size, so yes cars are getting bigger and more spaces are being crammed into car parks thus, spaces are getting smaller.

Maybe they should open a drive-thru window for the singletons buying their curry-inna-bag and 4 pack of Red Stripe?

Yes, but we all know that most of Scoobynet don't have kids and are a cut above the rest of society, so they do their shopping exclusively at organic farmers markets... So I dunno what everyone is complaining about, half of Scoobynet wouldn't be seen anywhere near a supermarket!

Precisely! I'm surprised at all the millionaires on here not having their food delivered to the door by Harrods...

Clare,

Chill. You're starting to sound a bit paranoid

Having said that, I doubt half of scoobynet have even left home, so shopping for food is alien enough, let alone going to a supermarket.

You chose to have a family, great for you Some don't, and some cannot. But having kids doesn't automatically give you additional rights over and above the childless population, so please don't complain when you are inconvenienced as a result of your life choices. Of course the same applies in reverse.

For the record, No, we don't have kids, but I respect those who do. Neither do I have a Subaru. I like to take car of my car, so I park well out of the way. Parent/child spaces are great - keeps the kids away from my car.

Oh, And I'm all in favour of fines for the inconsiderate ***** who park in the designated disabled/p&c spaces, especially if they can be upheld.

I am chilled, nothing like a bit of banter to make the day pass quicker, is there?

I have a child, she's 8. I don't think I need to park in a P&C space because I have an 8 year old. But I do see a case for those trying to get kids out of the backseat when they're babies - especially if you had a 3-door like I did.

But this country is becoming too trigger happy with the "fixed penalty". A word in their ear and an announcement on the tannoy would be a good way of preventing people doing it in the first place rather than just fining them.

I can imagine it now:

*bing bong*

"would the selfish, inconsiderate and no doubt tiny penised and no doubt single man who has parked his stickered up piece of crap in disabled bay number two please move it immediately. Yes, that's you in the Subaru shirt, isle 4, staring blankly at washing powder"
