gauges
Can someone explian somethign to me please:
- Electrical Boost Gauge kit includes required a boost sensor and hosing for accurate measurement of the actual boost level. No Mechanical hosing is required to measure, making installation and maintenance a breeze.
What does that mean, at the moment I just have a boost gauge, pipe coming from the spare nipple to the gauge, how do these gauges work, where do they get the signal??

I take it Prosport make a few different gauges then, as the ones i'm selling with pod a bit different, but still made by Prosport?

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but Iv just had mine fitted a few days ago & have a couple of questions about them:
When I manually set a max warning value for e.g. Turbo psi at e.g. 15psi, will the gauge light up the little blue light & beep every time I exceed 15psi? Also if I have turned off the warning beep that you get on startup will this mean the gauge will not beep once it hits the 15 psi set warning value? I have my gauges colour set to Amber so have not been able to see them change colour to red when they reach the warning values set by user. But I think the little blue light should light up & beep as well?
Also the peak values that the gauge has reached can be recalled by pressing the set button quickly. This last peak value does not get cleared when you turn off ignition, so you would have to clear it every time you set off on a drive, if you wanted to see what e.g. the max psi the turbo reached.
I suppose you cant really set a max warning value for Oil pressure as I want to know about low oil pressure then high pressure at e.g startup.
What kind of max warning value should I set for Oil temp,- 110 degrees?
Thanks

Q1) Yes
Q2) Once you turn the beep off it won't make a sound even if it exceeds a theshold. All you'll get is the gauge flashing red. Yep, colour change between red and amber is a bit subtle.
Q3) Yes you would. The gauge remember the peak event unless reset.
Q4) The oil pressure gauge does warn you based on reaching a minimum rather than a maxium (like boost and oil temp gauges do). You want to set the threshold at around 25psi, so it warns you if it goes less than that. Mine usually goes no lower than 30psi.
Q5) Oil temp. I set my threshold at 100 degrees so I know if I'm going over that. Highest I've ever had was 106, but that that was giving it some on the motorway. You wouldn't want to stay above 115 though, so I set it lower than this and get a warning ahead of time. But like I said don't think I could actually drive hard enough to get it that high unless there was a problem

Thanx James, thats was quick!!
I have set the oil temp to approx max 107f; & Oil presseure to min 25 psi.
Im gona test the warning beep & blue light by setting turbo max value at 15psi & see if it works (Then Il probably set to the max Iv yet reached, which seem to be approx 18.5 psi). Though I like the fact that it warns you with a beep, I dont think I can live with the constant beeping on startup!!
I also got the three external extra warning lights with my gauges, which simply plug into the back of the gauges. But have'nt bothered using them, have you & what do you reckon, a bit OTT & unnecesary?

fitted the electrically part of mine today , do the under bonnet stuff tomorrow , will post pic's of them finished
and just to answer the above question
just run a live and the amber wire to a switch and bob's your uncle
The other question I have is about the illumination. I chose white illumination, so have wired up with the white wire.....but I thought I might like to just have a look at em when they're red so I can make my mind up. Has anyone ever tried wiring some sort of switch into the equation? So you can connect up the white and red wires, but then somehow switch between them so you can change the illumination colour? Thought that was quite a good idea if it'd actually work?
