Rent the house so can't do what I want tbh but I have these old pictures showing my lubbly Optoma RD65 DLP:

Beautiful set which fills the room and wows everyone that sees it for the first time . Can't even remember what the reciever etc are as I don't use the living room much lol. The best thing is hidden under the stairs. My server with 5TB of media on it and is available throughout the house and even in the garage .

I've never had any overheating issues - I thought I would, but if I put the oven on, I do tend to leave the cupboard door open a little bit

I'm also a bit of a Bose fan - I've got faitly decent stuff in the lounge, but a set of 5.1 Bose cubes in the kitchen with a Pioneer 42" and it's not a bad set up. The sound is actually pretty good given that the speakers are so small.

Here's my final bit of luxury -

Here's my mainly Denon/Mission/REL rel setup, although it's an old photo and the room has changed somewhat since. I've been on a constant upgrade path from the early days of Pro-Logic and Laser Disc.

Third down on the rack is a Laser Disc player that cost me over £1k many years ago. I still have a large collection of laser disc although most have been replaced by DVD's.
I wonder how many DVD's would be sold at upto £60 a movie.

LOL Spot the photoshop wizz - you've even retained the reflectivity over the writing so that it appears behind the screen glass

P.S. It can't be long until one of those remotes is dropped in the bath!

The room is mainly a Cinema room as we have another lounge area. So I have the DTS and Dolby signs on the right, Starwars film cells on the left and other framed movie posters on the other walls.

Not tried the in wall ones, but B&W don't make bad speakers.... it will be a compromise though, but that means you will pay more than the equivalent visible speakers.

I've got a B&W FPM6 as a centre in black because it matchesthe TV - it's great, but over priced because it's relatively thin.

I'f you're mounting speakers in walls, then I would expect a lot more sound transmission to the rooms behind and above than with regular speakers which are somewhat easier to isolate - but that's an expectation based on no actual experience....

Minor hijack - I have brick and concrete walls so flush stud walling mount is a no-no. However, I do have a suspended wooden ceiling, so I'm interested in the idea of high-quality speakers in the ceiling - this would also get rid of my current problem that I have a pair of chunky B&W "bookshelf" (ha ha! coffee-table books only) speakers on wobbly stands that my toddler likes to shake. I was thinking of floorstanders but they're sodding expensive.

Q1 - are the flush ceiling speakers good enough for hi-fi AND home cinema, and what do the panel recommend?

Q2 - I've a large room which often gets rearranged, how do I get stereo effects to focus/centre on the viewer? Once they're mounted, they're mounted, it's not like moving speaker stands to a different corner. (I'm wondering about those fancy amps which re-triangulate at the touch of the remote...)

Q3 - anyone seen a good DVD/CD player which hangs flat on the wall, rather than being a frontloader that projects 40cm out of it?

I am doing a Barn conversion and in wall is the only way I will be allowed to have a home cinema, I will build them in and no rooms behind to worry about, as for cost they are not really that bad the sig 7 NT are around £700 a pair

LMAO - that's why it looks so real; because the screen is actually displaying the text.

Well mines now finished so i thought i,d post it up.

This is what we started with

After seeing what some of the others had done on the various forums, i new a makeover was required

The start

Note the exposed board at the lower portion of the pic.

This was from when we moved in, and took out the old fireplace, the original plan was to fill the fireplace etc, however because of the amount of other work required on the place , this turned into a quick fix/ cover, luckily the old unit covered it up.. not so this time

Bracket in place, now for the board

One board set into the wall, the fact that the poxy pollyfilla was off didnt help lol

Almost there,

just got to get the panel on the wall etc

All finished (well almost)

Hit a snag with the old PS2, found out the laser mech is on its last legs, so wont work in the horizontal position, so its there till it dies, then a SH unit that works horizontally will be sourced

Yes, it was on AVF. Currently considering an upgrade path with a Yamaha RXV1800 Receiver and PS3 for BluRay. Maybe combining it with the decor alterations which will happen soon (oak floors, retro school radiators and opening the lounge and kitchen/dining room up open plan). Not too sure whether the Yam is worth the cash though as the Onkyo 606 offers similar spec for half the cash (4/1 HDMI, 7.1, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio etc), but I used to love the digital effects processing on my old Yam DSPA2070 (concert hall, church, jazz club etc) and have missed them since getting the Pioneer which IMHO is crap at music, but superb with surround.

Ive just ordered a little booster thing for my aerial as well which should really give my set up some umph, i`m thinking of wall mounting it as that seems to be the thing these days as i don`t want to be left behind by the crowd.

Sorry, just my opinion... I've driven past quite a few houses where all you can see through the lounge window is a TV that completely and utterly dominates the room, much as that does.

Again my opinion, but if I had a lounge that size, I would go for something more discrete, maintaining the room as a usable "reception room" (does your wife not go balistic with that in it? Mine would...) - perhaps with an HD projector and motorised screen for proper cinema viewing - and a smaller TV that works with the size of the room.

^^^ I agree. My room is some 18'x16' and a 50" sits just nice with the decor. In fact, my missuse wanted to go for a 60" and it was me who scaled it back.
